Beautiful as a lift pump!! Well-made, efficient, and quiet.
This is a very unusual application. I have been doing diesel VW Rabbits for a long time. One of the nastiest things to solve is that the diesel injector pump has a rather unique drawback. The high pressure side injects fuel into the engine at thousands of PSI. The problem exists in the low pressure side. It has to suck fuel from the fuel tank up two or three feet. This, naturally, is the side that has the shaft in it, driven by the timing belt. It has a bushing, no bearings at all. Since it has to suck fuel out of the gas tank, and since the diesel is the only thing that lubricates the sleeve bearing and the rubber seal, it's prone to failure after a couple hundred thousand miles. I replace the seal on an injector pump and it lasted about 6 months because the sleeve bearing was also worn and the shaft actually wobbled when pushed on by hand. I got a rebuilt injector pump. We also have an electric car. When this Rabbit sat there for weeks, even months, even on the new pump, the diesel would slowly drain back down to the tank. Now, the engine would start for a second and then just crank after the fuel in the high pressure side of the pump was used up. It would then crank forever trying to get more fuel out of the tank. 1) I was now at the mercy of the battery - could it get fuel before the battery ran down? 2) This absolutely HAD to be horrible for the sleeve bearing and the rubber seal, running dry like that.So I ordered one of these after trying to shop very carefully and I finally mounted it under the hood. Voila! I was worried whether this pump could suck fuel out of the tank and do it somewhat quickly. Nor to worry!! I had a bunch of fuel pouring out of the line I intentionally left disconnected from the fuel filter on less than three seconds! Since the glow plugs take 7 seconds anyway - PERFECT! I was even more worried about it having too much pressure. I ran it through the ignition AND I installed a switch under the dash that would turn it off no matter what. It DOES NOT have too much pressure! I drove around with it on and no leaks from the injector pump!! Yay! I don't know if I'd try it with a pump that already has a bad seal on the shaft like I mentioned. You could probably expect that to leak. I also turned the switch off after it started (Right away after sitting there for a couple weeks). The I drove around for a total of 30 miles with the fuel pump off! In other words, this fuel pump DOES NOT have enough restriction to keep the original injector pump from getting fuel through it from the tank!!Absolutely works!! If you need what you would call a lift pump, especially for a diesel, this is it!! I'm your guinea pig! I think the ideal thing would be to set up some kind of time delay that leaves the pump on for a few seconds, then turn it off for safety reasons. For me, this would be quite easy, I could patch it into the glow plug system, which turns on the glow plugs and then turns them off after 7 seconds. I'll probably get around to that.GREAT Pump!

Great for older outboards or hard starting motors
Had a hard starting 225hp outboard motor that was always difficult to prime. Launching was always a burden because I never knew if I would wear my battery out trying to start the motor. Change fuel lines, and primer bulb 4 times and even put in a new tank. Someone suggested a primer/pressurizer pump to be add to the fuel line which I had never heard of. Now the motor starts in 2 secs every time. It is awesome and makes fishing and boating a pleasure again. I hooked my pump to the ignition system so it only runs well the motor is running and has an emergency cut off switch. I recommend it highly if you have an older hard starting engine.

Electric Fuel pump
would have 5 stars but fittings (included) are not standard 1/4" to match up with the rest of the fuel line fittings.I got a bad tank of fuel as I was putting the boat away for the winter. I am having to run the engine for a short time and bleed the filter of water and bio junk. Then rebleed the engine, turn it on open the bleed valve turn it offI added a 3 way valve after the pump to act as a polishing system with a return back to the fuel tank. Works good and no more bleeding issues when changing filters

Don't waste your money or your time
Ordered on May 19, 2014 for my boat (swapping in newer model 4.3 that does not have mechanical pump provision in the block). Now, July 12th, 2014, I've put the new engine in. Hooked up the pump (on a fresh battery) to drain the old gas out of the tank. The pump ran slowly for about 10-15 seconds, trickled a bit of fuel, then died--never to return. The pump was mounted as low as can be and was attempting to pump into a gas can through about 18" of hose with approximately 1 foot of rise (not even as high as the carburetor). Not impressed. Due to the 6-week span between ordering and installing, Amazon says it is out of its return window. Attempting to contact Airtex and Amazon to resolve this. Don't waste your money or your time. Heading out now to pick up a new pump locally.

This was planned to be a test but the boat now runs better than it has for a long time
I had problems with my 150 HP outboard running right for some time. Tried many solutions and things suggested in forums related to fuel delivery, which it seemed to be. Decided to eliminate all of the potential issues by by-passing all potential problems by going directly from the fuel tank to the carburetors with a new gas line and this pump in the line. This was planned to be a test but the boat now runs better than it has for a long time. The pressure is low enough to not be a problem with the needle valves in the carbs. I'm going to forget the testing and just continue to run the boat this way all the time.

Great when used as a booster pump
I recently bought as a project a center console boat with a 42 gallon tank under the deck, and a 90hp Nissan two-stroke. I replaced the mechanical fuel pump on the engine twice before concluding that it just didn't have the oomph to lift the gas that far and push it thru the spin-on fuel filter. I added this pump as a booster, and it has made a tremendous difference. I can leave it off when poking around at idle but then switch it on when I need to pick up speed. Fuel seems to flow through it just fine when it's off.

Great marine/ boat application...!UPDATE!
I have a 2004 carbureted Johnson 150 horsepower the motor is in excellent condition but kept stalling out when trolling in bogging Down if I ran It Wide Open so it was a fuel issue I installed this pump and hooked it into my ignition switch so it comes on and off with the boat Works amazing had it before opening rockfish season and have been trolling 8 hours a day maybe 6 or 7 different times and works great no issues nice product Coast Guard approved....!UPDATE! I bought this a few months back it worked perfect for the Spring and most of the summer but broke while I was off shore with my family luckily I had a manual fuel bulb so I could limp back to shore work great until the other day make sure you have a backup if you're using this product....
