Amazon Grocery, Tomato Paste, 6 Oz, Pack of 2 (Previously Amazon Fresh, Packaging May Vary)

I used this Amazon Grocery Tomato Paste in a homemade pasta sauce, and a heaping tablespoon was all I needed to give the sauce noticeably more body and richness. I added it along with whole cherry tomatoes, garlic, oregano, red pepper flakes, olive oil, a splash of cream and pasta water. The finished sauce was fantastic. Appearance: The appearance of the paste was exactly what I wanted—deep red, smooth and extremely thick rather than thin or watery. The aroma was rich and distinctly tomato as soon as I started cooking it. Saltiness: For saltiness, I liked that I could still control the seasoning of my sauce instead of the tomato paste overpowering everything. The concentrated tomato flavor added depth without taking over the other ingredients in the dish. The 6-ounce size is useful for recipes that need more than just a spoonful, and the quantity is actually quite good because this paste is so concentrated. You don’t need much to make a noticeable difference. For my sauce, that heaping tablespoon was plenty. Helpful tip: Most recipes don’t use an entire can of tomato paste. Instead of letting the remainder get forgotten in the refrigerator, portion the leftover paste into tablespoon-size amounts and freeze them. Once frozen, you can keep the portions together in a freezer container or bag and grab exactly what you need for your next soup, stew or sauce. Most helpful takeaway: This is a basic pantry ingredient that performed exactly as I wanted—very thick, rich and concentrated, and just a heaping tablespoon gave my homemade tomato sauce considerably more depth. Great item to keep on hand.

I usually make my own tomato paste from my garden. This is a very good substitute. Nothing beats homemade, but it's pretty darn close.
