This is a very useful lens in the Nikon range for my photography .
This used unit was bought to replace an identical one which I damaged on holiday and which was no longer within the repair programme.The unit purchased looks good and works well with my D5100 and D5300 cameras.

An excellent lens, more sturdy than the 18-55 and giving slightly more optional zoom without having to change lenses....Good for a starter lens and ideal for general shooting.

Superb
I recieved this len as part of the kit with my D70 and the very first thing I noticed was how silently and quickly it focussed in the majority of situations. It seems to know what it is you want to focus on, sheer witchcraft!The only time it doesn't get it right is if there are no featurse standing out from the scene; i.e. the sky, but this is true to all AF lenses. The Manual/Auto mode is very handy as it allows a manual override at all times, and there is also a fully manual mode.Pretty sharp, a good all rounder, the wide angle is very good and equates roughly to 35mm on a D70. The 70mm end is also great for portraits and even a bit of sports.

A good, solidly built every day lens to go with my D40.Far better then the standard 18-55 kit lens.

Nikon Lens
This lens is a surprise, I didnt expect much as I bought this on its own and Nikon give it away as a kit lens. This turned out to be an excellent addition to my kit and the autofocus is so smooth and quiet you'd think this cost twice as much. The picture quality is supurb with a good wide angle for "artistic" close shots. A definate thumbs up.

Unreliable
Fast and quiet. Concerns about zoom bunching not really an issue.But... the ones I have had more and more frequently refuse to focus. Refitting lens sometimes fixes this. I now find that others have similar problems. Many refurbished lenses are previously returned lenses and these continue to have intermittent problems. Nikon are not prepared to accept responsibility and I suggest you consider an alternative without these problems. Amazon have a good returns policy but will expect you to go through the manufacturer's process first - this is expensive and time consuming and most importantly does not result in a working replacement.
