Book for Grandson
Our oldest Grandson, aged 8, loves, loves, loves all things airplane. He is especially interested in WW II era aircraft. This book is so informative and has great photos. Some of the info is above his present understanding, but I am sure this book will interest him as he grows.

I bought this book for my son who loves war history. The book has great pictures and a variety of facts about each plane.

So-so Book
I found numerous typos and some information on some of the aircraft was incorrect…who calls a .50 cal. machine gun a .5 machine gun? Nice visual depictions of these aircraft sort of saves it.One of the most blatant mistakes…B24 range, 20,000 miles ( I rounded the error).

A worthwhile read but definitely flawed.
It is always disappointing when you find a great book with so much to offer that you later realize has some significant flaws. While I still highly recommend this book for anyone with any level of interest in World War II military aircraft; one has to keep in mind it takes a very European British perspective of the topic area. While British fighter aircraft are featured in depth to include whole sections devoted to sub-types, only one Japanese aircraft is featured. German and American coverage is good, but still leaves out some critical aircraft like the America P-38 Lightning and German Heinkel He 219 Eagle-Owl. With that said, the aircraft that are covered in this book feature beautifully executed color graphics, well researched and presented photographs, and a wealth of information presented in a manner that keeps it accessible for the novice while providing a enough depth for the experienced aviation enthusiast.

Glaring Omission
This is a beautifully illustrated book, but how can a historian of WW2 Aircraft leave off the USAF P-38 Lighting? It was clearly one of the more important fighter aircraft serving in both the Pacific and European theaters throughout the war. And including in the book the Hudson and Condor aircraft instead just doesn't make sense if your including the more important planes of the conflict. And if you're going to include these two planes that had minor roles, then where is the C-47, which was truly one of the great aircraft of the war and all time? Do the research!

So many missing ??
It's a nice book but it does not say European theater only. And I suppose that's because it has exactly one plane covered from imperial Japan and that was the zero. More planes covered from Italy than from Japan in this book. What a tragedy and completely misleading in my opinion.
