AMES 1554300 Long Handle Round Point Shovel

Much better than the fiberglass ones.
I don’t know about you, but when I’m using a spade, I’m not gentle on it and I don’t like when the shaft snaps like a twig after a couple years. These are VERY sturdy-a good product for your money.

Great shovel
I used this as a costume prop so I’ve never actually shoveled anything with it or used it in the yard. But it seems sturdy and just like your basic shovel. It definitely served me well as just a prop.

Great for the price
I've had these for a month or so and have no complaints. They are lightweight and simple, but sturdy enough to get the job done.

Needs a Slight Modification But Otherwise Great For the Price
Gosh, what a nice shovel for the price. My last shovel was $30 and it broke. This looks about the same so if it breaks, I'll save about $24! This only problem with this shovel was that what looks like rivets connecting the metal cowl to the wood handle are actually just two little nails. They started to pop out as I was digging, allowing the cowl to spread apart which in turn alllowed the handle to wobble a bit inside the cowl Not good. Soooo .... I pulled out the two little nails, drilled a hole strait through the handle via the nail holes and slipped a spare bolt (from my copious collection of nuts and bolts) though the drilled hole and secured the bolt with a lock nut and washer. The handle is now firmly in place and the shovel has a nice sturdy feel.Although the nails are a design defect, I give the shovel 5 stars anyway because the defect is easily fixed and, for heaven's sake, what do you expect in a shovel for under $6?

Good for the price, hasn't broken
I was looking for an inexpensive shovel considering I wouldn't need it in a couple years. The handle is not the smoothest, but I just wrapped electrical tape around the top half as hand grips and haven't had a single splinter. I recommend you tape it before you use and and it's still clean.I used it to dig out the stone border of my garden. The stone were very heavy and I could see the shovel straining to leverage them out. The Two nails holding the head to the handle will probably loosen in time. However, knowing that the shovel was cheap, it was easy enough to find it's limits and not exceed them.If you are looking for a 10-year shovel, spend a bit more money. But if you are just shoveling dog poop, this will do.

For 10 bucks what do you expect?!
Its a basic shovel... I have amazon prime so i got it for $10 with free shipping so worth it to me, i got it to clean up dog poop till i could review pooper scoopers (which i have got another one now) Its your basic shovel, looks durable... not very good at cleaning up dog poop compared to a pooper scooper (pan/spade set) But it does the job temporarily, i will probably use this shovel for something else later on... only thing i really don't like is that you need to wear gloves when using this shovel unless you want splinters (I received a splinter while taking it out of the box), i personally prefer non wood shovels for that exact reason.. so i give it four stars for being a good basic shovel.

VERY LIGHT WEIGHT BUT STURDY
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THAT IT IS LIGHT WEIGHT. I HAVE HAD MAJOR BACK SURGERY AND THIS SHOVEL IS PERFECT. SO WHEN I SEE A WEED POPPING UP I CAN EASILY DIG IT OUT WITH THE SHARP POINTED END. THE HANDLE IS SUPER SMOOTH AND FOR US SNIOR CITIZENS YOUR CAN'T GO WRONG WITH THIS SHOVEL.

Weekend warrior's delight
Was looking for a longhandled shovel since my friend broke mine last summer. This one was affordable and fit the bill. After I sharpened the front edge with a grinder it worked perfectly in cutting thru the roots of my hydrangea, and roses that needed transplanting. The only issue I had was the part where you will normally put your foot to force it into the ground was rolled like a pencil thus did not provide a stable nor comfortable surface.I suppose I can unroll it to a 90 degree lip but did not have the time to do it since rain was already upon me when I started digging. I believe this is more than enough for normal gardening duties.
