THE LOFT (BLU-RAY) - VARIOUS

The film was a good plot about five men who share a loft for their extra-marital affairs. This goes horribly wrong when a woman is found handcuffed and naked on the bed by one of the men. Using flashbacks the plot thickens and I never saw the twist to this film coming. It was brilliant, although it didn’t stop there as there were more to come.Excellent film and well worth a watch again. Highly recommended.

The plot of this thriller is pretty simple – on first glance that is. In that five friends – all of whom are married – all get together and buy a loft apartment. This is to be used as a ‘passion pad’ or any other term less ‘poetically inspired’, if you follow and here they can bring back partners for sexual congress and indulge their wildest fantasies – etc.Now all is well and good but then one of them arrives there and finds a woman handcuffed to the bed and dead. It is clear she did not do it herself and there are only five keys to the loft and only they all know the entry code. It is not long before they are all thinking the same thing – and that is one of them must know more than he is letting on.Now this is stylish and very well acted by all players. Nice to see Matthias Schoenaerts getting a break in a non European film, but this is hardly a stretch for him after the likes of ‘Bullhead’ or ‘Rust and Bone’. The real attraction is that this seems to be fairly simple and then the Machiavellian twists start to turn up and it gets very interesting very quickly.It is a good watch and there is not a single lack lustre performance, but like so many films it trades on its twists, and as such will not be one that you will probably want to see more than once, and so a rental option, methinks, may be best, but it is still very much worth seeing - even if it is just the once.

Gritty yet romanticised, a difficult combo to get right. Mystery, suspense and a relatively believable set of events and dialogue; motivations and reactions.Acting: 10/10Story: 10/10Normally I grade more attributes but when the acting & story is this good who cares.

Script, acting, directing, casting, photography and general premise were the worst thing I have experienced in probably 10-15 years.It felt like money was thrown in to an algorithm of "what makes a successful white collar thriller"Better get a bunch of 6ft something white males to play all of the main characters, oh but also chuck in a chubby 'comic relief' - nailed it.Make all the female characters have like three lines in total - done.Base the entire plot on the idea that EVERY MALE just definitely wants to, will or has had an affair with a string of victims. - yup.And to add insult to injury, the story line and plot development is literally spoon fed to the point of exasperation.Ultimately exhausting to watch.Disclaimer: have seen many of these actors/actresses in films and tv shows before and they are not short of talent at all, this feels like a wrong place and wrong time kind of vibe.Maybe watch when drunk: 1/2 a star.

A person falls from a high building onto a car. The alarm sounds as the rain pours and a figure stands hopelessly on the balcony - the balcony of THE LOFT.It's an ok plot about five so called friends who share this rather lux apartment for extra-marital assignations. When one comes back to find an attractive woman dead in the bed all hell breaks loose and the cops are called. It's quite well done and it's a long time before the identity of the victim is revealed however the plot is very convoluted and stretches credibility way too far at times especially at the end. The characters are a bit cliché and universally lacking in appeal. You do wander how they ever became (and remained) friends and Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) really needs to take that stick out of his backside.

Whilst the whole story does indeed engage, keeps your interest and is well photographed, what we see playing out is humanity at its worst. Unethical, shallow, selfish Alpha men, all mentally screwed up and without an ounce of empathy, yet driven by their buried, fearful emotions of not really being loved which exist below the surface thus engaged in one-upmanship a and a set of women who are the female versions of the same. I found myself not caring about any of these people of the distasteful and contemptuous corporate world.

Remember hearing about this film years ago,but never got round to seeing it.Have to say quite well done film which kept me entertained throughout! Can't remember how well it did at the box office but none the less well written and well acted.Certainly well worth the 2 hours spent watching it! Would like to see more of this type of film as opposed to superheroes with lots of special effects but no storyline!

The dvd was second-hand but in a good state and got sent quickly. The film is enjoyable, numerous good twists and turns even if sometimes it's a bit far-fetched. However, the actors in this film are all very good.
