Great replacement for an old pair of Shure e2c
I've been using a trusty pair of Shure e2c earphones for the past 7 or so years and decided they were due for an upgrade. Whilst the sound quality is still excellent and they're undamaged, I decided I wanted a headset with a microphone for use on conference calls. The Etymotics are a great replacement, they're much lighter weight in feel than the Shures, but feel adequately solid. The cables are thinner and they're less noticeable to wear.Sound quality is great, I've had no issues with the quality of the microphone when using on conference calls both with Skype and normal mobile calls. They're comfortable enough to wear all day and the sound quality is excellent on music as it is on calls.5 stars from me.

Outstanding Sound Quality
These earphones sounds fantastic, the fit takes a little getting used to but if you make sure you put them far enough into the ear to make a good seal the sound quailty is great, exceptional clarity even compared to headphones costing many times as much.

Third pair, fantastic sound at the price and very comfortable, but don't abuse the wires
I am currently on my third pair of these earphones/headset. I'd buy them again.Pros: light, very comfortable, great rich soundscape with lots of detail in the mid- to high-range. Sound much better to me than other headphones I've tried anywhere near this price. Lovely thin cable, with soft flexible outer sheathing material (some sort of elastomer, I suppose). Very nice soft pouch. 2 year manufacturer's warranty (you have to return it to them in the US).Cons: With extended rough handling (i.e. daily use on my commute), the wire sheathing material split on my first two pairs revealing the inner insulated wires near to the 3.5mm plug, the Y-splitter and/or the earbuds. They still worked when this happened, but it was clearly not ideal and they then looked broken and fragile (this was the reason I replaced my first two pairs). Suggest you are as gentle with it as you can be handling them. So far, 14 months in, the sheath on the wire for this third pair is still intact. Re comfort, my most recent pair, using the same mushroom tips I preferred on the two previous pairs, seem to fit my ears less well and require more wiggling to get into a good position and make a good seal to cut external noise. Don't know the cause - my ears may have changed shape a little bit, the material or shape of the earbuds I liked may have changed or it could be something else. But spending some time selecting the right tips is essential, even on replacement pairs of the same model headset.Tips: I noticed during my commute last week that the 3-button remote on my pair had stopped working. Also, the 3.5mm plug didn't seem to be going all the way into my iPhone. The earphones still worked fine for playing music. It turned out that some pocket lint had built up inside the phone's headphone jack, wadded down near the end, and also in the lightning connector. This lint was fairly easy to gently remove with an opened paperclip, and now the plug goes further into the jack as it used to, and the remote buttons work fine again.

Amazing earphones - clear and perfectly balanced
Amazing earphones - clear and perfectly balanced. I've had custom moulds made for these and they are THE best noise isolating earphones! Really solidly made too. Cable doesn't tangle. Love, love, love them!!

Good News these are Black and not Blue, buy from Amazon.
Sold By Amazon (no third-party phew!) You'll see a drop down box for these which states Blue or Black if you select Black you'll notice it's for a different 1-Button pair - so make sure you leave that box checked for "Blue" and go with the colour on the title "Etymotic Research Balanced Armature In-Ear Headset with 3-Button Control and Mic - Black" if you're after the HF3 in BLACK.Okay the HF3 aren't bad but I have to disagree with the "Accurate Bass" in the description, sure I can get a good seal which gives me a little bass but it's just not enough and it's certainly not accurate, I have plenty of Studio Monitors that are accurate which have 10 times the bass these do and they're very neutral (MDR-7506, MDR7509HD, HD25-1 II).The etymotic design here is triple flange (the same as you buy from a chemist or a hardware store) except they've had a hole drilled though them so you can hear what comes out of the single - yeah single balanced drivers in each ear, you get an assortment of other fits included.Sadly the triple flange are only provided in a small and medium - there is no large pair as I don't think Etymotic makes. The best people with large ear canals can do is use the grey foam provided which is great but only lasts around 2 weeks before you have to hunt around and buy replacements - if you can find genuine ones that is, in the UK it's not easy, I don't really like that Brita, Nespresso kind of lock-in model. For comfort and at around the same price point I'd totally recommend the Klipsch X10i which I think are the most comfortable In ear headphones around, all ear canals are oval shaped and Klipsch unfairly owns the Patent from 30 years ago for "Oval" earbuds, the x10i have a slightly warm tone and they have bass - yeah bass! not Bose / Beats overexagerrated artificial bass, but more like Shure SE535 Bass - something the HF3 just doesn't have, if you're a musician - bass player/drummer one listen with the HF3 and you'll wonder where your sound went, I'm certainly not a Klipsch fan but I think the x10i is the better buy here.

Excellent quality earphones!
Bought these earphones based on a friend's recommendation and no regrets!Once inserted fully in ears, they cancel noise and project high quality sounds without over use of bass or treble. Have used other brands like Klipsh, Seinheisser, Sony, etc and these are definitely top for quality!

Do not buy -- quality has gone downhill
DO NOT waste your money on these earbuds! I am returning my pair since I bought these in 2017 as the cabling delaminates and the internals get exposed. All I do is wear them to listen to music, keeping them clean and dry, then put them carefully back in the supplied case.I am in the process of requesting another replacement pair and if that fails, I will be contacting Amazon UK to demand a refund.I don't know what has changed @Etymotic since I bought my first pair in 2010, but the quality is no longer in their product.

Great
They work great! Only the middle button (pause and play) work on my android phone though. Microphone is clear.I have accidentally put them in the wash twice now. Luckily it is still working unlike the HF5 which died after one wash.

Noise isolating goodness!
I dont usually take the time to make these reviews, but these ear phones had it coming.First, lets start with the fit. This is probably the most important part with iems as they are so tiny that if they dont fit properly it'll be a nuisance and you're going to find yourself constantly adjusting them in your ears. This is not the case for the hf3s though. Fit varies per person, but for me the foam tips and the gliders work perfectly and i never have to adjust them after putting them deep in my ears once.Second, noise isolation on these is STUNNING. This is what i always wanted. I just wanted a headphone that I can wear when I am on the bus or on a subway and I could focus solely on my music, without having the annoying shouts of people screaming at each other or babies crying bothering me. I bought several pairs of headphones, shure se 215s, sony xba 40, bose qc25, but none of these headphones ever completely isolated me from the world. The shure and the xbas came in pretty close but I find the treble on the xba 40 very sibilant and harsh to listen to, while the shure se215's fit was ok ( was a bit too big and gave me discomfort after an hour or so of listening) but the audio quality was not up to par as I found it very bassy and muddy. When you have the etys on you dont hear S***! You can literally be in the middle of a war zone, with explosions and gunfire around you but with music playing, you'd only hear the music and nothing else and I mean NOTHING else.Sound quality wise, these are gorgeous for the price. Granted my more expensive headphones do sound better in the bass department, these are amazing. They are crisp without being sibilant, and they have the perfect neutral balance. Just a little more bass, and they would've been perfect but the good thing about them is that they respond very well to EQ. Just go to the EQ settings on whatever device you're using and turn the bass up just a notch - maybe 1 or 2 decibels depending on your preference and these are just heaven.I absolutely love these iems and i will always make sure I have a pair of these on me at all times. There is simply no other headphone in the market, that can isolate sound like this. And i mean NO OTHER headphone. Trust me, the noise cancelling headphones can get rid of engine noise but thats about it. No amount of tech can ever get rid of inconsistent noises like people talking. These headphones are absolutely perfect in every way except build. They are built a bit cheap and the cables dont inspire any confidence. They do come with a 2 year warranty though so they make up for that as well. Thumbs up etymotic! You have WOW'd me in every way. I highly, highly recommend this pair of iems to anyone. Trust me, they are absolutely worth it and your ears will thank you later :)

the others just sound like something out of a tin can (over saturated tremble ...
This model was a trade up from an ER6i (which lasted over 12 years). Since 2011 I had been using a HF3 until a recent accident where the connection pin was sheared off completely. My fault and not a manufacture design issue. The HF3 earphone worked so well that I had to quickly ordered a replacement. I have gotten spoil by the clarity and sound (with the added insulation of background noise) from Etymotic that when I tried to use other ear phones, the others just sound like something out of a tin can (over saturated tremble and with an un-natural amount of DB gain in bass). The HF3 sounds more natural.Etymotic ear buds does take a little time to get use to, and to seat them correctly in your ear. My wife even complained about it the first few times, but she quickly got used to it after a couple time of use, and the issue about fitting and chaffing never came up again. Now whenever we travel and she forget to bring her set, she would commandeer mine over anything else that is usually available. So I've learned to now always stock a spare ER7 with me in my gear. I would always have a loaner just in case one of us forget to bring our normal gear. To us, the ER7 sounds just as good as the HF3 when listening to movies and making phone calls in car or planes. I however, think the HF3 is worth the money when I am listen to vocals, jazz and classical. I use my HF3 as an all around device, as an ear plug, as a music ear phone, and especially with my iphone during conference call. Without them on, I would always have to strain to hear the meeting discussions. Also, the mic is great. Much better than the factory iphone6 built-in mic. My listener always comment that the mobile connection had just gotten better as they can suddenly can hear me clearer. Sometime on a inbound call, I don't have the headphone near by and would fumble about a little bit before I can plug them in and get situated. Unbe known to listener on the other side of the call, all I did was to plug in and use the HF3 to free up my hands to type or write. Nothing to do with the phone signal getting better, or me moving to a better location for the call. These head phones don't tangle, and they are surprisingly very durable. The ER6i were more susceptible to clogging up. The HF3 are better design. I had used the last HF3 one for 4 years and never had to clean out or replace the inner plastic stem.
