I’m pleased with this calligraphy ink and was quite impressed with how much work I can get out of just a couple of drops. It is quite richly pigmented and makes a bold black brushstroke, but can also be diluted for a lovely range of shades of neutral gray. Thin lines with the intense black can be followed with water wash after they dry for pretty ink washes.The bottle is substantial and the sealing cap on the pour spout works really well. After painting, it was easy to clean the remaining ink off my little porcelain dish and my brush. The fragrance is odd but not unpleasant. It’s like they put a dab of perfume over a carrier fluid, and the carrier fluid has a high school science lab kind of smell to it. So it’s noticeable, but I did not find it unpleasant and the lingering hint of smell after the ink dries is really nice with an intriguing faint spiciness to it.I like the convenience of this ink and it is going to see much more use than my fancy glass jar deep black carbon ink. This ink is just so much better when it comes to ease of dispensing and ability to clean up afterwards. It’s also nicely priced, and that always makes ink more fun to use.

I am a huge fan of sumi inks. This bottle here now has a permanent home on my desk. The smaller bottle size is perfect for my art desk. Will be much easier to top off my small cup while writing. I love the earthy smell of this ink as well. The ink flowed quite smoothly from my nib. This ink ranks at the top as my other two sumi inks! It has a beautiful color and quality that makes it an easy purchase. I definitely recommend this bottle to others!

I have just started dabbling with calligraphy . . .I cant really compare it to say more expensive inks but so far it has impressed me with its flow and ease of use. It performed beautifully and as a novice, I was still in control. The ink dried a nice black with clean lines that didn't get muddled.
