Gorgeously detailed black & white vintage illustrations of animals. Perfect for scrapbooking or decoupage.

So many great illustrations/engravings. Some have backgrounds and scenes which is especially nice but not difficult to isolate if needed. These are highly detailed illustrations and some have a very unique style that slightly deviates from realistic and more or an artistic rendering.

Art work

Although I like the animal illustrations in this book, most of them are so dark that the detail is lost. I am quite disappointed and am going to return it.

I have quite a collection of Dover books concerning art, artists etc etc. which I use as a reference guide for my artwork.

rubbish without color,all the pictures could be found on the internet. don't buy it next time. otherwise you be disappointed.

Nice resource for artists!

I'm a big Dover fan. I have many of their books/CD's. The illustrations in this book are mainly of obscure animals. A bit disappointing if you are mostly looking for more common animals. Also the illustrations are a little ugly. Alot of aquatics, insects and obscure birds. OK, if you just want it on the off-chance to add to your collection. For designers: unless you are looking for the more obscure (and not too cute) images it might not provide any use. Cheap enough to have a go if you need some hirtoric reference have looked everywhere else and want to spend a lot buying archives, original docs etc.

Black and white pictures of mammals, reptiles, insects, fish, crustaceans, shells and a few botanical images. Would have personally liked more domestic animal pictures, but there is a good choice of topics in this book to use as a reference for illustration.

Beautiful book full of ideas for sketching great condition worth every penny

As an artist I like to have as many reference books and photos as I can. So if you like to draw with ink and pencil this is a great book to have
