Great product, very simple to install. I was just renewing an exiting subscription, so one click of the 'Redeem Purchase' and then a couple of clicks on the McAfee site and you’re there. Installing on a second machine was even simpler. I’ve seen lots of negative reviews because you have to add card payment details to your McAfee account and sign up for auto-renewal in a years’ time, but if you don't want that, all you have to do is go into your McAfee account, select subscriptions and cancel auto-renewal as soon as you’ve installed the product.

Very reasonably priced, and feel confident it protects.

Oh my goodness I had McAfee Total Protection this year and it was highly frustrating to download when I did this last year, this year the app had my subscription to free and wanted me to pay online at McAfee, or so I thought, after hours literally of trying different things I noticed in small blue writing the words add account number here. I didn’t have an account number until I tried the code given to me and put that in and hey presto it worked beautifully. So if you have an iPad follow the email instructions and copy and paste the code in the box from clicking on the small blue words to add account number. This McAfee security gives you VPN too for peace of mind and adds it automatically, once you have successfully added the code - phew! Good value reliable cover too, but knocking a star off as it’s such a faff to download especially a subsequent year.

You cannot activate it without inputting your card details for auto renewal. Ok, it says you can cancel it but chances are you will forget and get charged a lot more than you originally paid.

I had been using Kaspersky Internet Security for nearly 15 years. Russia's invasion of Ukraine, coupled with Eugene Kaspersky's ambiguous stance on that invasion, has made me re-examine my use. Quite simply, I do not trust Russia not to weaponize Kaspersky Internet Security I and stripped it out of both my computers even though I had 10 months left to run on my subscription. I was in need of a replacement and McAfee seemed the best. It is easy to install and to run. A full scan takes slightly longer than Kaspersky, but in day-to-day use it is fast and efficient. It does not offer Kaspersky's "Safe Money" feature, but I can live without that. Its VPN feature is a bit more flexible than Kaspersky's. It updates regularly and painlessly and highlights vulnerabilities in a reassuring way. Kaspersky may have moved its main servers out of Russia, but its coprorate direction still comes from there and after all, Eugene Kaspersky was an officer in the KGB before he turned his hand to commercial antivirus. I feel more reassured with McAfee on my computers.

I recommend the system for its ease of ordering etc and download is simple, even for me! But I get requests all the time for this and that and payment which I don’t understand. My renewal is not for months yet. So a support section would be good.

Anyone who uses McAfee will have a love hate relationship with the product. It seems to provide the user with one of the vices it is installed to prevent – pestware (nuisance notifications of its products). In addition it tries to auto-renew at a premium over the new price of the product at Amazon which leaves the customer with a bad taste in the mouth. However I’m of the generation that still believes in virusguard and it seems many years since I ‘ve had an infected computer with McAfee installed. Either McAfee is very good or the viruses are well hidden. I bought this product from Amazon and downloaded from the games and software centre in Amazon. The process was extremely quick and effective. Amazon provides a 25-digit activation code which is input into the activation part of McAfee’s website. Amazon instructions are very clear and during installation I had the option to extend my current subscription which still had a few days to run before expiry. My McAfee on the computer did not show the extended subscription straight away but this corrected after a few minutes. Probably if I had restarted the computer the details would have updated on the McAfee program. I was impressed by the seemless the activation process.
