Battery was dead.
It appears to be a good replacement. I have since found it is not compatible with my computer.

Battery works but capacity is very low,
I get about 1 hour of battery life when not plugged in. Battery had sat on the shelf too long

I wasn't sure if I needed a battery or if my laptop was ready for a replacement. And I really didn't want to hassle taking the old one apart to check the battery (you have to remove all the screws from the back and pry the cover off - not so easy. With the older model HPs all you needed to do is pop the old battery out and the new one in). So I bought a new laptop. I also decided to buy a battery for my old one... just in case that's all it needed. I figured that if the issue wasn't the battery I could just return it. Turns out the old laptop only needed a replacement battery and I was able to return the new laptop. I spent about $24 on the battery and about $600 on the laptop. Long story short: I saved about $575 after returning the new laptop. So far, my old laptop is working fine with this new battery. When I reassembled the laptop, the cd/dvd compartment didn't open. Since I seldom use it anyway I decided to just leave it.I like that they sent a little magnetic screwdriver - I helped to remove all the tiny screws without dropping them. They also sent a little plastic putty-knife that I didn't know what it was for.It would've been helpful if they provided instructions to explain why I would need it.It was delivered quickly - faster than I expected - which I loved!Overall, it works great and will hopefully give much more life in my old laptop. I would definitely recommend the seller and will use them again if needed.
