Riverdale: Season 2

The darkness inside us all.
When I reviewed Season 1 of Riverdale I made reference to the "meaningful stare" school of acting and the cliched extent of the dialogue which I felt were drawbacks to awarding Five Stars to the programme. Well this time around we have twenty-two episodes to get through and although the first of my concerns has to a large degree been addressed regrettably the dialogue hasn't shown the same improvement - there are too many occasions where the characters make statements as opposed to carrying on a conversation. If one can ignore this then Season 2 has a lot to offer to keep one's interest. We start immediately after the cliffhanger which closed Season 1 and progress to see how the town of Riverdale copes with the fall-out from those events. There are conflicts between the main characters Archie and Betty following the return of Veronica's Father Hiram Lodge to Riverdale where he is intent on expanding his Empire by acquiring various of the Town's assets whether by fair means or foul. Archie throws his lot in with Lodge Senior whilst Betty is trying to identify "The Black Hood" a serial killer who is set on a course of ridding the Town of people he regards as "Sinners".Jughead Jones is made to transfer to the Southside school where his loyalties to The Serpents cause problems with his relationship with both Betty and Archie - an ongoing theme throughout the Season. It is noticeable that there is less reliance on the musical content this time around apart from one episode which is almost wholly devoted to the pupils of Riverdale High staging a performance of "Carrie - The Musical" It is hardly surprising to find that that doesn't end well for one character !Many of the characters from Season 1 reappear and their individual stories are developed in various ways (even the Music Teacher Miss Grundy makes a brief appearance doing what she was best at doing before !) and other new characters are introduced to drive the plots along.I did also wonder whether the would be sufficient mileage to make a second Season worthwhile but am pleased to be able to say that the Producers have managed to keep all the balls in the air and Season Two is well worth watching. Again we end with a cliffhanger to lead into Season Three - I for one will be watching. There are copious Extras comprising Five Featurettes :- Riverdale Vocal Warm-Ups / Caught Between Two Worlds / The Darkness Inside / Making The Musical Riverdale / Riverdale Pop Quiz and Riverdale:2017 Comic-Con Panel. In addition there are Deleted Scenes for each episode plus a Gag Reel.Audio is English and French.Subtitles : English for the Hearing Impaired / Danish / Dutch / Finnish / French / Norwegian and Spanish.

Very good season
While season one of Riverdale was pretty good season 2 I felt was a bit of a mix bag for me it wasn't as good as season one but I still enjoyed it Cheryl is my favourite character absolutely love her loved her relationship with Toni and the start of choni relationship my favourite episode had to be the one where Cheryl gets shipped off to the sisters of quiet mercy and Betty Toni and Veronica Kevin have to rescue her it was very well done and even reminded me of a star trek voyager episode unimatrix zero with the sisters being the Borg and the girls have to rescue Cheryl from the evil nuns I know in season 3 they do a similar episode with the farm I love how the shows writers do episodes like this also there are some great episodes I do feel at times that some episodes just plod along and are a bit boring the episodes with Hiram and Archie take up alot of this episode Hiram especially plotting to take over Riverdale like a supervillain roping his wife and daughter Veronica and even Archie into his evil schemes i found these episodes a bit boring and not very interesting I did enjoy Betty and jughead this season the same Cheryl rescue episode I enjoyed the scene where Betty calls in the servants to help her her mother and chic and jughead the servants burst in like greasy gang I laughed smiled at that so there were some good parts elements to this season I can't wait to watch season 3 and hope it's released soon on dvd as it's become my new guilty pleasure lol

MANIC PERHAPS, BUT ENJOYABLY ADDICTIVE
22 episodes this time, Riverdale living up to its reputation of "where bad things always seem to happen". They certainly do here - teens Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead all showing a much darker side. With parents like some of theirs who can blame them?Search almost in vain for anyone even approaching normal. All are deeply troubled, a few downright evil. Adolescent angst abounds, loyalty severely tested. So many secrets. So much treachery.Major storylines? The Black Hood has declared war on the town, attacks and deaths mounting. Fear. Panic. Vigilantes not exactly helping. Meanwhile an unscrupulous property developer aggravates the already great gulf between Riverdale's prosperous North and run down South. Everything seems set for a major confrontation. To be honest, it is all over the top - at times ludicrous (Ep.17 anyone?). It is also highly enjoyable. Just do not ask too many questions about who is doing what and why, how could Betty so often be so stupid, Archie (of all people) so naive.Hilariously, for light relief, there is the school's choice of musical. "Carrie". Talk about tempting fate! (The bonus on this episode is of interest. Despite all the singing and dancing involved, there was only as much time to rehearse as for an ordinary episode.)Although rather older than the intended teen audience, I quite enjoyed adventures that became increasingly manic. The underlying message appealed. If Riverdale is ever to see better times, it will be down to its younger elements - they uniting to lead the way, unlike some of the truly appalling adults around. Many bonus features. Arguably the best is the Comic-Con session, this far better organized than the last. Although many are still featured on stage, all have a chance to contribute usefully (those speech bubbles a brilliant idea).A startling cliffhanger whets the appetite for Season 3. Others no doubt will follow. With its cult following, this show likely to be around for quite a while.

Dark Archie
Riverdale Season 2 is a bit mixed in storyline compared to Season 1, but still very enjoyable. The storyline has some good plot changes, but its focus on character development is truly a delight. In the end, it is not case of whether this is better than season 1 just different.
