Oscillating Multi-Tool, Variable Speed, 2.5-Amp (BD200MTB)

I always perceived oscillating saws as a gimmick tool you bought from a shopping channel at midnight and personally soldiered on with hand saws, knives and chisels. But to save time during a recent floor job I bought this unit. It was the right price if all I ever did was sand with it. I’ll be using it more. It may lack the power of higher end tools but I don’t notice. (Note: it was rated at 2.5A in the box versus the 2.0A on the Amazon specifications page). Equally, it may be heavier or less ergonomic than other more expensive models but I will never know. The book received with the unit lists the blades that are available from Black and Decker and the box lists Porter-Cable and Stanley FatMax blades as compatible. I bought Porter-Cable blades with the round holes from Amazon and they fit fine. (The caveat is the blades can get expensive for the number of cuts.) Amazon also had Black and Decker blades but for some reason the Porter-Cable were a dollar or so less. The keyless tool change works really well. The box includes an adaptor set, Allen key and washers, that will probably allow the fitting of any accessory you can throw at it, open or closed arbor. And Black and Decker remains reliable. It’s not my “go to” brand but I have Black and Decker power tools I bought 25 years ago that will go another 25 years. For my expected use, this oscillating tool will last beyond my life time. Five stars.

This tool is amazing, powerful and versatile but you will need to get extra adapters to do different things. The worse is the sanding adaptor. The hook and loop system of attaching attaching sand paper is good in theory but, in practice, leaves a lot to be desired. Initially you are able to sand, but eventually the little felt on the back of the sand paper sheets wears out and detaches from the back of the sand paper sheets, loosing adherence to the oscillating multi tool business end, resulting on no sanding effect on the wood or whatever you are working on. However, that is not the fault of the tool, which works as intended. The oscillating blades, rasp, etc work fantastically and it is a very good way to cut your way through materials in difficult situations without endangering your hands/fingers to a possible injury. A very flexible and powerful tool!

This is my first oscillating multi-tool. When I bought it it was just over $50 here on Amazon. At the time of the writing of this review it has increased in price by about $10, so obviously Black & Decker and Amazon realized that it was too good of a deal at the lower price. Don't worry, it's still a great value at $60-something dollars. I'm not a professional contractor (if I was, I'd drop the $300+ and get a Fein), but I am a fairly heavy-use home user (I am currently doing a whole-house renovation). All I can say is the B&D multi-tool is worth much more than I paid (probably worth $100) when compared to the features and power of competitors. The quick-change blade feature is HUGE! Don't waste your money on any multi-tool that doesn't have a quick change blade feature. Here's the only warning I have about this unit - Black and Decker blades are hard to find. Now, that being said, there is one brand of universal-fit blades that will work with this unit, those are the ROCKWELL brand. I think you can find them here, but LOWE'S also stocks them. I've done a lot of research (and bought and returned alot of so called "universal-fit" blades) and from what I've learned, the only blades that will fit on this unit are B&D and Rockwell. Some people say that the Porter-cable brand blades fit too, but I have not been able to verify that, so you will need to find that out for yourself. All in all though, a great first multi-tool and (IMHO) the best multi-tool under 90. Good luck with your work, don't hurt yourself.

You really can't beat all the value packed into this tool for such an affordable price. This is by far one of the most useful power tools I have ever purchased. It's easy to master and after a few tasks you'll wonder how you lived without this tool for so long. It cuts through most materials with ease and a level of precision that only master craftsmen can achieve with more conventional tools. My only complaint is the availability and price of spare parts. My first one died after about 5 years of regular use. The variable speed control circuit board corroded. Not sure why. And although I was able to find an online parts supplier, the part was backordered for several weeks. So I bought a brand new one instead. Happy to note that apart from some minor cosmetic changes, the design is pretty much identical. So if I never get my first one fixed, at least I can use it for spare parts.

Writing a review for the Oscilating Tool is simple, IT'S GREAT. I have used this tool for same level cutting to make room for carpet at a doorway; I removed old flooring with the spade attachment, which made a tough job simple; I use the mouse sander head to sand the trim around a difficult door jamb and worked like a dream. And just today I tried out the variable speed on a sanding job with water putty and what a super feature. I would recommend this tool to anyone looking to save money and have a multi-purpose tool for many projects. The rotary tool has not received as much of a workout yet, however I have checked out the features enough to go out an buy a 200 piece accessory kit with numerous heads and bits. Looking forward to using this on my model train layout to convert cars as well as modify various buildings. This is a purchase I would do it again and again without hesitation. The tool has only two accessories one is an 1" wood metal blade and a sanding base a useless if you own an mouse sander B&D I browse the B&D website and the stock on accessories is 0 thy do not mention which accessories from which brands are compatible on the booklet is mention on page 9 Porter Cable and Stanley FatMax are accepted and a Warning note the use of any accessory not recommended to use with this tool could be hazardous.

I thought I was buying a cheap tool to compete a job. This turned out to be far better than I expected. Works perfect lot's of power and well made. 100% satisfied. Plus it was cheap.
