Does the job
We are close to interstate freeway noise and this helps so much. Very simple to set up and easy to reach over and adjust volume in the middle of the night. We are happy with the selection of sounds too.

It Does Exactly What It's Supposed to Do!
I was inspired by a recent trip to get this sleep machine. While I normally run an air purifier at night (which is it's own sleep machine as well), I recently used one at a hotel on a recent trip I took and my goodness, this elevates your sleeping times 3.They have several sound settings, and I prefer the rain and white noise ones personally. The volume knob to control the sound is also super useful as well. My purifier has its own job, this sleep noise machine ensures that the settings fit to your specific comfort levels while you sleep through the night.First night of using it, I have to say it has done exactly what it's supposed to!

Very short sound clips
The sound reels are so short that I find that instead of relaxing, I mentally start counting time like I’m at a symphony concert, listening to the same few bars being repeated. I am musically inclined and with pretty sensitive ears, but I think most people would notice it.Sound quality - the speaker sounds pretty cheap as well.I tried to make it through 30 minutes, the shortest timer option, but since listening was not relaxing me at all I couldn’t make it.The light does work, and is very dim. Also, I picked it up and put it down while on, which seemed enough to make the batteries lose contact inside the locked compartment, so I’m not very pleased on portability and performance there either. This device does not help with sleep quality or relaxing for me. I was hoping to also use it to play for my dog while she’s crated, but I’m afraid the short reels, etc might be more onerous than helpful for both of us.The summer nights crickets were the least burdensome to listen to, since they are supposed to have a repetitive rhythm to them… I’m not a fan of white noise, but those did sound like white noise.

Perfect Sleep Sound Machine
Homedics is one of those companies that you know you can trust off the bat so I knew this sound machine would be great. It turned out that I was wrong as it's even better than great for the price. It's a true steal with everything you get. It's so lightweight and small so you can take it with you for traveling or even in the car. You can hook it up in your car and the 12 soothing sounds are ones you really want. So many sound machines have all the basics, especially the annoying rain forest with shrill calls which I find hard to believe anyone would want.None of that nonsense with this sound machine. They've obviously listened to their customers and provided everything that you want or may not know you want. This is the perfect holiday gift idea.

White noise not white and pure.
I am a medium to light sleeper and so only the white noise option even comes close to being usable. The first night I used it I had it placed about 8 feet from me, and it seemed to be fine. The second time I had it closer to help drown out the dog snoring. Maybe I was just really tired the first time I used it and didn't notice but the second night after 20 minutes my brain started hearing a phrase repeated over and over. I got up and listened to the machine and could not hear anything but the white noise. I turned it up and tried again to sleep. Again after a few minutes I was hearing a recurring phrase. I read all the bad reviews on this and some mention subliminal message and a lot of voices or odd sounds, also a lot of complaints about the loop length and variable volume levels of the loop. I am very opened minded and down to earth and have been around quite a while. I am not easily rattled or shaken. I have to say though there is something weird going on with this Machine. Something meant to help you sleep should be better designed. My machine works well, it can get really loud, and all the buttons change sounds. The light is adjustable or can be turned off. As one review said it might be good for making sounds in a waiting room or background noise in an office, but I would not try and sleep with this. I will be putting this in storage never to be seen again until a yard sale takes it away.

Decent
This is alright although for the price I would hope that it would be better than it is. The loops are short and it can be noticeable. The fire camp sound for example sounded nice but then I picked up the sound patter is practically around 3 seconds and my mind honed in on it and lost sleep. It was the same for certain ones too. The "shhh" sound is kind of creepy. And the white sounds are ok. If you increase the volume to max you might also get a tinny sound. Overall, I think it would benefit heavily from longer loops considering how much technology is advanced today for something so simple if you're going to be charging $30+. I give it a 3 because the ocean with the seagull sound is actually quite good and helps if you have it at a medium volume where you can't tell its looping. The light is okay but not needed. And the timer, I like how when you activate it, it resumes to your last sound and time. Much room for improvement - a bit disappointed. A mixed bag for me
