Love everything about it!
I was looking for a gun safe for my daughter that I recently bought a Sig P320 Compact for. I did buy one at the store I purchased the gun at, but it was too large for her needs, and it was more like a black box that wanted to be hidden rather one that was at home visible on a shelf, which by the way was a real issue in my case since my daughter was not going to deal with an ugly black metal box on her night stand. We just received it in and here is a rather detailed breakdown of my experience so far...Packaging - It was packaged with thought. It looks more like a Mac Laptop type packaging rather than a gun safe. Nice touch, and to be honest, it helped a lot in my case because my daughter was very impressed which made her rather proud to have it. Sort of like when she unpacked her iPhone .Accessories - I was quite surprised how thorough and well thought out this little safe is. Everything from the larger than normal Rechargeable Lithium Battery and battery charger, the little screw driver to get into the battery compartment, a very strong steel lock-down cable and a nice manual to explain how to program the safe... just a well thought out system.Features - This safe has 3 options to access it.. Finger Print Reader, 5 Number Key Pad, and Keys.....The Key Pad - works as you would expect, fast and easy. One note of thought, the keys do light when you press them but they do not appear to stay on so they can be seen in the dark. I will check further but If not that does make it a little less able to quickly find them in completely dark room until you press the first button which turns on the key lights. I will say though, if the lights were on, it would have to very very dim so they do not light the room and effect sleep which my own gun safe does. Also, the battery would take a hit so it would drain faster. So its a trade off I guess. The Finger Print Reader - This was quite easy to set up... after I read the instructions more clearly after my daughter mumbled through them and then did it wrong. After a couple or tries, we did get it set up to respond to our prints fairly quick. The manual says to program your finger a few times into memory so it has a few readings to reference which makes it faster. I think this is a good idea since it does seem to hesitate for about a second or more sometimes when you place your finger. After trying it a few ways, I will pass on some advice to program your finger so the center of your print is on the center of the reader. Once I did this, it read the print faster with much less hesitation. When placing my finger on the reader, if I placed it with the center of the print at the center off the reader it could read my finger much faster and at different angles ( meaning, if I placed my finger on the reader at a 45 deg angle and event 90 degrees left or right which you may do when laying in bed and reaching for it ). Essentially, it does seem to work well, and I believe this will be the easiest and fastest way to access the gun under pressure, but just make sure you program with your finger "print" centered and flat to the reader, ( NOT with just your finger TIP which is not good for getting a clean reading it can respond too fast.Keys - We will not use them unless all else fails. The key slot is hidden behind a nice black cover, but that same nice cover definitely would get in the way in the dark or even under pressure to get the gun fast, so the first two options simply need to work and the keys will be hidden away.Phone Access - I was thinking this would really be nice for my daughter and I was right. The App links her to the system and shows her everything from a history access log, to battery power levels, to the ability to swipe and unlock the case. This app had a surprising effect on her in that it made her feel like she was fully involved with the system not just looking at it from across the room. For example, if she had a friend over for a sleep over, and she goes and takes a shower, she can simply look at her phone and see if her friend attempted to open the safe. The app also allows you to delete finger prints which is a nice fast way of starting over with new prints. The ability to monitor the battery level is critical since we are using it as a battery powered system all the time.Battery Power - This was a huge plus for us since I wanted the safe to be placed on her night stand shelf which is an enclosed shelf with a backing. The ability to place the safe on her shelf allowing it to blend in with her other electronics such as her laptop, or even a book, makes this unit quickly become invisible to the average friend that visits. And the compact low profile case made it possible for the safe be placed on this lower shelf, but still have the ability to pop open more than wide enough to access the gun fast. It the best possible situation since the case can be left in plain view but be fully ready to open without any additional delay that could occur if you had to push the cover up manually to get your hand on the gun. The size and low profile design is absolutely perfect for a bedroom setting that you need to make it blend.Aesthetics and Design - I searched specifically for a safe that would look at home in her bedroom and this was by far the best looking option I could find. It looks more like a thick laptop rather than a gun safe. I got the white one since her bedroom accents are white, which again, for a 15 year old girly-girl, that made a huge difference. She has no problem at all leaving it in plain site and is rather proud she has such a stylish gun safe that also gives her almost instant access to the one thing that has greatly made her feel more empowered and safer than she has ever felt before. Looking this nice made it easy for me to ensure that I will not come home to find it hidden under her bed where it cannot be reached, rather she will be happy to leave it right near her where she can see and reach it any time.Overall I am very thrilled with my "find". It has an impressive feature-set that was obviously well thought-through on many levels. As a Father that wants his daughter to be proud of her ability to safely and accurately shoot her Sig, I also wanted to give her the perfect way to keep it close to her for that critical moment she may need it, without having to compromise how her bedroom looks. In my case, style does equate to safer.. After all, what draws more attention in a frilly girly room... a black steel industrial box, or a nice low profile white case that resembles a book? That typical ugly black box you normally see will draw unwanted attention to it from friends that would normally ignore the "book". Thats how you stay safe, it blends until she needs it for real.I will highly recommend the VT-10 to all my friends and family.

Needs a better lock
As of 2019, Handgun Safe Research is limiting reviews to 2 stars for all handgun safes having locks accessible with inexpensive and readily available tools. Most Vaultek safes, including the VT10i, are fitted with an automobile lock for a bypass, and the lock can be opened quickly with a GOSO HU100 lock pick.

Only Very Minor Problems Keep It From Being Perfect
Update after two months. Continues to work well with the exception of the fingerprint reader which, for me, is pretty much a failure. Things I particularly like include a long-lasting battery charge, I charge it about every month whether it needs it or not, it rarely gets below 50% even opening the safe once a day. The software works very well on my iPad and iPhone, it's especially useful for checking the battery charge level. This is a high quality product, I just wish they'd made the fingerprint sensor more accurate, it's not worth the time fooling with it hoping it will work, entering the passcode is infinitely quicker.Well, this looks to be the first non-five star review, but don't get me wrong, there's a whole lot to like about this safe. But there are a few, small, issues which keep me from high-fiving the Vaultek. First, I suppose, is the fingerprint reader. When this technology was new, seniors' fingerprints were difficult to capture because, I guess, they just wore down as the years passed. But that has changed. I'm a 70-year old who has a Viking safe, and iPad and iPhone, all with fingerprint readers which work 100% of the time on the first try. In the three weeks with my Vaultek, I've tried numerous fingers and have yet to register one which opens reliably every try. It's much quicker to use the key pad which gives me no problems, ever.Another issue is the "beep." There isn't one. I contacted customer service which, admirably, responded immediately to my inquiry via email on a weekend night. It was suggested that the beep was very faint and perhaps my hearing wasn't picking it up. Not. It is turned on, both mechanically and on my iPhone app, but it just doesn't work. No big deal, I have enough things beeping in my life already.Otherwise, this seems to be one tough little safe. I mounted it to a heavy, thick table using 1/4" x1 1/2" carriage bolts fastened with lock washers on the interior. Even the largest included mounting screw would only be a temporary deterrent for a determined thief with a decent pry tool, even a large screwdriver. To properly secure this safe bolt it to a surface, carriage bolts have no screw eyes or wrench sides so it would be difficult to dismount the safe without access to the interior, short of sawing the table apart. The battery looks to be good, after three weeks of constant opening and otherwise fooling with it the level is 60%. When I initially received it, it took about four hours to fully charge it.In summary:Smiles:Compact, subdued yet attractive. The push button code works flawlessly every time.Proximity sensor turns the keys red when your hand is placed near it.Interior light works well and brightness level is adjustable via the iPhone app/Android app.Good padding, two layers on the bottom and one on the interior lid will protect any finish.Keys are cut in such a way that picking the lock would be difficult, but no lock is impossible. The phone app works very well and opens the safe every time without fail. It has multiple functions which also work well. Strangely, on the iPad app it keeps asking me for a "code" with no way to enter it. . . ? I have yet to get the iPad app to function.Customer service has been first rate.Frowns:As mentioned, the beep feature does not work. The fingerprint reader is spotty and rarely works, at least for me, on the first attempt. Multiple attempts are successful, but using the keyboard would be just as fast.Overall, this is an excellent safe, which properly secured, should protect a firearm or other valuable during the quick "grab 'n snatch" time a burgler is typically ransacking your home.

Stunning design; quality craftsmanship
This is a premium safe. I bought the VT10i which is perfect for CCWs. The attention to detail, great features and amazing design make this one of my favorite amazon purchases. They make everything easy. From the moment you open the box, you feel excited! Great instructions in the box and great online videos and resources. Stores 20 fingerprints which is more than many others in it's class. The app allows for more control over bluetooth and shows history logs. Solid construction. Illuminated interior. The buttons feel strong and illuminate beautifully. The key hole is hidden perfectly. Rechargeable lithium battery. I use it for my XDS 9mm 3.3", and there is plenty of room. I keep 2 mags with it, but it could easily fit another sub compact next to it. Presentation is important. Design is important. Functionality is the most important, and it nails all of them. Not even the most expensive of it's class.
