Red Sparrow [DVD] [2018]

The dvd arrived on time and in good condition.

Good spy thriller, reminds me of Luc Besson's 'Anna' and 'Nikita'. Beware, there are some saucy scenes, and it's quite violent for a 15 cert. There's also some sexual violence, but it is handled well. The plot gets a tad confusing in places. Jennifer Lawrence is great, but not sure about the male lead. Comes across a bit weak... Interesting orchestral score to the movie.

The picture quality on the 4k format is noticeably more vibrant than its Blu-ray showing, though I am of a mind,as a fan of 4k that upgrades for special-effect movies are more beneficial in truth.Taking nothing away from this superb double-agent/loyal citizen? offering which is in my opinion right up therewith the best such as Angelina Jolie's 'SALT'Below my original review -The film has received mixed reviews from the critics since its release earlier in 2018,, I had heard very little about the film but noticed one or two encouraging comments on the review pages so I took a chance on it.A mesmerizing performance from Jennifer Lawrence who plays Dominika Egorova a prominent Russian ballerina whose career is ended after a freak accident on stage.Dominika after a period of recovery is approached by her uncle who offers her the unpleasant task of seducing a Russian gangster in exchange for her sick mother's continued medical care, Dominika has little choice but to carry out her uncles' direction, her mothers care being her priority.When events turn nasty Dominika will be given a choice of death or being enlisted into the intelligence agency known as Sparrows where she will be trained to seduce her targets and or kill.Dominika successfully completes her training and is assigned to try and identify a Russian-mole by befriending C.I.A agent Nate Nash played by Joel Edgerton.However things seem a bit complex when Nate is instructed to try and recruit Dominika as a double-agent....will there be a genuine romance between the two?Will Dominika betray her country or remain focused on the task?A tense and absorbing story that includes several brutal sequences some of which are indeed moments that some may find uncomfortable to watch. (Torture)I would say I myself found it well worthy of a viewing.

a cracking thriller jennifer lawrence in it, great quality and a great price.

I read the book before buying so I could watch this Blu-ray without getting lost (if other reviews are to be believed). Well, here's my short review of the Blu-ray.First, Jennifer Lawrence. I enjoyed her performance. I'm not much of an expert on acting but she obviously worked hard and managed to carry off the lead. Why some reviewers struck the knife in I don't know. OK, so there are moments where logic/reality is stretched a bit, but this is a film designed for entertainment, it's not a documentary.Second, the deviations from the book. Some I can understand (I watched all the extras afterwards), but some, well, they just grated. If I hadn't read the book (and yes, I know sacrifices have to be made to get a 540+ page paperback into a 2:20 film) I would have been happy, but whole swathes of the book's plot are changed. A good thing is the lack of fixating on recipes that the book had - I skipped them anyway.Third, visuals. On the whole, well done. Although I'm glad I didn't watch the short documentary on the visual look of the film before I watched the film - it might have put me off a bit. Budapest looks great, and some of the interiors are very effective.Fourth, the music score. Yes, it was a bit cloying, even too lush and scene-stealing, at times, but it suited the film. This is Hungary and Russia, not some modern dance floor, so a classical score was the correct choice.Fifth, the disc itself. A slow loader, but that could just be my Panasonic player (three years old). Extras OK, but I always appreciate a good Gag Reel, sadly none here. Dolby Atmos, even though I don't have the set-up to handle it, is always a bonus on a standard Blu-ray (i.e. not confined to the 4K disc releases), so a tick from me on that. Also the extras seemed to consist (at times) of saying how wonderful this person or that person was - a mutual back-slapping fest! More talk about the film and less about your mates please...!So why the three stars? Well, simply the deviations from the book annoyed me (especially Sparrow School (too much lopped out) and Swan's story being changed), as did the luvvie extras (but there was good information in there as well). If there is a sequel (I'm currently reading it as my bedtime book) then will it follow the book or this film? I, for one, hope there is.

JEN.LAW uncle played by Matthias Schoenaerts brings a deeper analysis to the script, as he allows Jen.Lawrence character/part to almost succumb to making her change not just for her mum. As her accident from being a fine ballet dancer (a very Russian Influence) highlights the jealousy that comes from being at the top of the branch in terms of influence & greed from other dancers. As the battle between being owned by the state and real life/and living that has a hold on her as the quest for survival in either ( sexuel & monetary) gains means that although she becomes trained to manipulate men sexualy. Her once hate is her uncle and Matt Schoenaerts brings that element of distrust and the twist from beginning to end; just stops it being just another film of Russian/American good guy /bad guy.

Particularly liked the parts with Jennifer nude....

J'ai bien recu mon dvd il est arrivé avant la date prévue et en très bonne état le dvd a très bien jouer et j'ai bien aimé le film je ne l'avait jamais vue je suis très contente de mon achat et très bon service je vous le recommande si vous aimé les films d'espion.

Für "Red Sparrow" hat Regisseur Francis Lawrence wieder mit seiner "Lieblingsschülerin" Jennifer Lawrence zusammengearbeitet und diese Chemie zwischen den Beiden merkt man auch. Beide haben ja bereits bei der "Hunger Games Trilogie" miteinander gearbeitet. Aufgrund des wirklich guten Trailers und meiner "Vernarrtheit" in Hollywood-Allzweckwaffe Jennifer Lawrence waren meine Erwartungen an den Film dementsprechend hoch und sie wurden auf jeden Fall zur Gänze erfüllt. Trotz einer Länge von mehr als 2 Stunden wurde es keine Sekunde langweilig, ganz im Gegenteil: der Film ist von der ersten bis zur letzten Minute extrem spannend und zeigt sehr realistisch, wie in Russland "Sparrows" (Agenten) ausgebildet werden. Die Story bzw. der Film braucht etwas Zeit um richtig Fahrt aufzunehmen, doch nach dem aufbauenden und etwas langsamen ersten Drittel legt der Film danach so richtig los und überzeugt durch überraschende und packende Wendungen, hohem Tempo und jeder Menge Action. Auf jeden Fall ist "Red Sparrow" nur für Hartgesottene geeignet, da es nicht nur einige Nacktszenen gibt, sondern auch sehr realistisch gemachte und harte Folter- und Actionszenen. Da kommt auch der erste Kritikpunkt ins Spiel: Einige dieser Nackt- und Folterszenen hätte man im Film ein bisschen abschwächen können, zum Beispiel durch ein Filmen von weiter weg oder ein Rausschneiden mancher Sequenzen, aber gerade hier hält die Kamera voll auf Jennifer drauf, so sollte wahrscheinlich eine möglichst hohe Authentizität entstehen. Das ist auf jeden Fall in den meisten Bereichen gelungen, doch wurde leider in einigen Bereichen übertrieben, wie zum Beispiel mit dem schlecht gemachten und gekünstelt wirkenden russischen Dialekt, der in der deutschen Fassung schlecht synchronisiert wurde und meiner Meinung nach nicht unbedingt notwendig gewesen wäre oder auch bei den oben angesprochenen Folter- und Nacktszenen.Es sei Francis Lawrence und seinem Team verziehen, denn ansonsten ist der Film sehr gut gemacht.Ein großes Lob gebührt wieder Hauptdarstellerin Jennifer Lawrence, die wie in jedem ihrer Filme von der ersten bis zur letzten Einstellung überragend ist und die Story von der ersten bis zur letzten Minute durch ihre besondere Gabe gemeinsam mit Spielpartner Joel Edgerton trägt. Über das Talent von "Jen" muss eigentlich nicht mehr viel gesagt werden, diese junge Frau steht mit einer solchen Wucht und Leichtigkeit vor der Kamera wie man es in Hollywood wirklich selten findet. "Jen" schafft es dabei wie keine Zweite jede ihrer Rollen zu etwas Besonderem und Großem zu machen und sieht dabei auch noch so unverschämt gut aus. Sie ist eben ein echtes Naturtalent gepaart mit einer gehörigen Brise Erotik und jeder Menge Charme.Doch auch Joel Edgerton überzeugt in seiner Rolle als amerikanischer CIA-Agent, der zunächst von Jennifer als "Sparrow" ausspioniert wird und geheime Informationen weitergeben soll und sie danach zu einem Wechsel auf die andere Seite bewegen will, um so selbst an geheime Daten über den russischen Geheimdienst zu kommen.Die Beiden entwickeln auf der Leinwand eine tolle Dynamik und harmonieren wirklich gut miteinander.Tolle Schauspielleistung!Fazit: "Red Sparrow" ist ein packender und wendungsreicher Agenten-Thriller mit jeder Menge Action, Tempo, Erotik und Nacktheit und fesselt von der ersten bis zur letzten Minute. Der Film mag sicher nicht jedem zusagen und ist nichts für sensible oder zartbesaitete Menschen, da es viele Szenen echt in sich haben. Ich persönlich fand den Film toll und kann ihn auf jeden Fall empfehlen. Kritikpunkte sind von meiner Seite der übertriebene, schlecht gemachte russische Akzent, der "Russland-ist-gut" und "Amerika-ist-schlecht" Plot und die vielen Nacktszenen und harten Foltersequenzen, deshalb 1 Stern Abzug. Alles in allem ein starker Film mit einer überragenden Jennifer Lawrence, der mich 2 Stunden durchgehend gefesselt hat. Wie sagt Jeremy Irons in dem Film so schön zu "Jen": "Du bist besser darin als alle Anderen". Das sieht man in diesem Film einmal mehr!
