For when the world is too stressful and you want peace
The author has created a wonderful peaceful world with this collection of books; it hardly matters which one. The people are lovable, the plots and problems are simple but unusual, and so are the eventual solutions. He has created a world of kind people who do good things, treat each other with thoughtfulness and are gentle and good hearted- with a grump or curmugeon thrown in here and there to spice things up- or sometimes a cobra or elephant problem. Life is calm and filled with "traditionally built" people who mean well but sometimes get it wrong. A lot of fun and calms you down in a good way and are a tonic to too much politics and modern world meanness.

Alexander McCall Smith at his best
I've read every book in the Botswana series, so all the folks who populate these pages feel like old friends.Mr. Smith was particularly witty and cheeky this time. I found myself laughing more than once, from Mma Ramotswe's birthday to the clever allusion to old saws without actually spelling them out. Fun reading and as always infused with the sweetness of his love for the place.

Lovely Characters and Charm
I love spending time with the characters in this series. They're filled with common sense, sometimes riotous views on society, and I learn a lot about Botswana. The mysteries are light, but enjoyable. In this novel, two puzzles present themselves to the #1 Ladies Detective Agency. Unfortunately, one isn't engrossing, and the other, too confusing. Is awful Violet ever going to get some comeuppance? But spending time with Precious, Grace, Charlie and all of the others was as pleasant as ever. Recommended!

Over 25 years with Ma Ramotswe and Ma Makutsi
As I type this I'm thinking about book the next installment that will arrive on my doorstep in less than 8 weeks because I preorder every single book in every one of AMcS's series. I met Ma Ramotswe and Ma Makutsi back in 1998 and every year since we've spent a few days together. In between visits I sometimes look at my shoes and wish they'd give me advice. As each year's visit date approaches I find myself wondering once again if this time I'll find out the names Mr JLB Matekoni's initials stand for. And as the years pass and I get rounder and rounder, I find myself wishing I could legitimately lay claim to being traditionally built.I love these characters. May Mr. AMcS live long with all of his faculties intact and may his desire to share these characters with us remain strong.

The Best Yet
Loved this book. I have read many of his books, but this one was unique. He did more philosophical self-character dialogue. We got to know Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni and Charley better. We saw how Maa Ramotskey handled difficult people and situations with love. The ladies seem to form a wonderful friendship and were more open. I enjoyed this book.

Great light reading!
All of this series by Mr. McCall Smith have been enjoyable and entertaining. I was even happy to hear Botswana won a gold and a silver medal at the Summer Olympics of 2024.

A Fine Addition to the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency Series
Alexander McCall Smith delivers, once again, with his beautiful writing and charming characters. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to his next installment of the series. My one criticism is that there was an American character who clearly was not American. She spoke and acted like a typical Botswanan. I know Mr. Smith has visited the United States, but he should brush up on his Americanisms.
