Patriot: A Memoir

Depressing, Uplifting, Essential
This is, quite simply, one of the best books I have ever read. Not necessarily stylistically; it’s kind of choppy, and for good reason. Navalany was constantly in prison on trumped-up charges because of his opposition to Putin and other Russian thugs. His writing had to be smuggled out by his lawyers, at great personal risk to them. His bravery is astonishing, and his ability to maintain a sense of humor in the direst situations you can possibly imagine is incredible. I consider this to be a must-read. “Fight the powers that be”

A Study in Philosophical and Physical Courage
This is an amazingly fluid, thoughtful, and humorous memoir, written under unimaginable conditions and with unimaginable determination and grace. It will join works like MLK's "Letter from Birmingham Jail," "The Prison Letters of Nelson Mandela," and Gandhi's autobiography as studies in philosophical and physical courage. It will also stand as the essential indictment of the brutal reign of Vladimir Putin over a nation and people who deserve better.

heartbreaking
When you read this book, what sticks with you is Alexei’s unique and powerful voice—and it was not what I expected. He’s so humorous, intellectually curious, and positive. What happened to him was a crime and a sin. And I keep thinking about those unjustly imprisoned here and in El Salvador. Evil is everywhere.

The story of a courageous patriot
Sometimes hard to read due to dialect issues but I enjoyed reading about a courageous man who sacrificed his life for his fellow countrymen. Hopefully not for naught

Life-affirming, democracy-promoting
I didn’t expect Navalny to retain his sense of humor to the end. This book is a beautiful love letter to his family and his country, and to freedom-loving people everywhere.

Amazing account of Russian life and evolution of modern leadership. Navalny led a courageous life. The real costs of freedom. . .
