Ghost [DVD]

If you look at the cast and crew list, it features a cast of well know international actors (Gabriel Byrne, Karl Urban etc). However Amazon have confused this English, low budget movie, with a movie called Ghost ship which was made several years ago. Even the Trivia panel in the X-Ray is about the older movie.Don't get the two confused, as i did.

It just goes to show you can make a low budget film whch doesn't look cheap. This was terrific filmed almost entirely aboard the Phoenix, nearby office and the lead character's house. The lead actor John Sentance is outstanding as a young man who works on the moored Phoenix who guides, entertains and teaches groups of people who visit the ship. He witnesses a lady jumping from the viaduct (not really a spoiler) and investigates. All the actors are one's I'd never seen before and they were all talented. The story line was good and well paced. Even better was that there was some genuine scares in this - goosebump types. Really good so please I watched it.

I must admit I really loved this film. As some reviewers have said, it is a good old fashioned ghost story but what I found really delightful was how the filming went ever so slightly out of focus in some scenes and to me this really added to the air of mystery and suspense. Yes it is a low budget movie but it still packs a powerful punch - well worth watching, especially alongside another feature.

Although the box cover gives the impression your in for a yarn on the open sea the ghost ship in question remains in dock the whole film. Nevertheless this low budget feature presents us with an old fashioned ghost story with good ideas some of which don't quite gel, as so often happens in low budget, but I still found this more interesting and entertaining than much of the main stream tedium. The most effective eerie scenes take place below decks and the mystery unfolds with frenetic visuals towards the end. Worth a watch if your into less bombastic phantoms.

There are two dvd's called Ghost Ship with almost identical pictures on the cover,and I chose the wrong one.I will not ask for a refund because it is not the sellers fault.This is a very amateurish English film which is like those tacky TV shorts they put on regularly .Do not touch this!To merely call it rubbish is like complementing it.
