The Shield
This 3 disc DVD highlights the best matches featuring members of The Shield that took place after their previous DVD ended. It's a match compilation where each disc is dedicated to a different member of the Shield, starting with Dean Ambrose, then Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. The subject of each disc introduces the matches by either talking about the match or just about The Shield/their career in general. I really liked these interviews.John Cena vs. Dean Ambrose - This was an open challenge for John Cena's United States Championship that Ambrose answered. It was a very good back and forth match. They had some convincing near falls and some good counters and the action was all good. It was a very good match that showed that, as a singles wrestler, Dean Ambrose was a main event level star.Dean Ambrose vs. Kevin Owens - This was a match for the Intercontinental Championship. It was a very good back and forth match. It was the style of fight you'd expect from these two unorthodox wrestlers. The action was good from start to finish, there was a very convincing near fall and a good, decisive finish. It was a better match than I remembered.Triple H vs. Dean Ambrose - This match was for the WWE Championship which Triple H held. The winner would be going on to main event Wrestlemania. It was a great back and forth match. Triple H wasn't taking Ambrose too seriously when the match began but it wasn't long before Dean gave him no choice but to see him as a threat. It had great action from start to finish and an Incredible false finish. While I didn't like the result it also had a really good finish. It was a great match that should have been the main event of Wrestlemania.Dean Ambrose vs. Alberto Del Rio vs. Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn vs. Cesaro - This was the 2016 Money in the Bank Ladder match. I think that was possibly the best money in the bank contract ladder match they've ever done. It was more than just the usual high spots as the rivalries between the men, such as Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn's and Chris Jericho and Dean Ambrose's, played a part in the match. It did still have it'd fair share of brutal and dangerous looking spots though, and the big spots that were set up all felt natural. A really good match with some great moments.Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns - This Triple Threat match was for Ambrose's WWE Championship. It was a really good match with some great action and memorable moments. There were temporary alliances formed with Roman and Dean both hating Seth but Seth and Dean wanting to get rid of the much bigger Roman. There was a good callback to the moment that initially destroyed the Shield and a good finish. A great main event. The Miz vs. Dean Ambrose - This was an Intercontinental Championship match. For some reason I never look forward to the matches between these two which is strange as they always produce quality. It was a good back and forth match with some very good near falls. Maryse did get involved but only in a way that added to the match rather than hurt it.Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins vs. Sheamus and Cesaro - This was a Summerslam rematch for the RAW Tag Team Championships. It was a great match. They fought back and forth, but with Sheamus and Cesaro controlling the majority as they beat down their opponents. There were plenty of near falls, including one that played directly off the Summerslam finish which I liked. Cesaro got his front teeth knocked into his skull which must have sucked for him but seeing him fight through it did add to the match, showing how important the match really was.Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins - This was for Roman Reigns' WWE Championship. It was a great main event. Roman controlled a lot of it with his power advantage and acted a lot more like a heel against the smaller Rollins. Rollins still got in enough offence to make it competitive though. It had some convincing near falls, some great counters and a load of very good action. It started with a slower pace with Reigns in control as he was getting cocky and enjoying his domination but as the match went on the pace picked up and lead to a really good finish. The aftermath with Ambrose cashing in his Money in the Bank contract is included here too.Seth Rollins vs. Triple H - This was an unsanctioned match because Rollins couldn't be cleared to compete due to a knee injury, this also meant that in this match anything goes. Seth started off in control but it wasn't long before Triple H managed to hurt the injured knee. From then on any time Rollins tried to build any momentum Triple H would go right back to the knee and cut him off. I thought this was a really good match and I liked all the work on the knee with Rollins fighting through the pain and Triple H relentlessly targeting the damaged limb. The pace was more methodical than Rollins' usual matches but that made sense with the story being told. A lot of people didn't like this one and said it was too long or slow but I really disagree, it was great. The Shield vs. The New Day - This was from Survivor Series with The Shield representing RAW and The New Day fighting for Smackdown Live. It was a regular Six-Man Tag match with no eliminations. It was a great, back and forth match. There was some great teamwork by both factions, convincing near falls and innovative spots. The match was full of great action from start to finish. This was one of the matches on this night I was most looking forward to watching and I wasn't disappointed.Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns, John Cena and Elias - This was a gauntlet match that Seth Rollins started. It's a really great series of matches. His fight with Roman Reigns was a good back and forth match between two men who knew each other well. His match with Cena had some good psychology as Cena wanted to conserve energy for the rest of the gauntlet, even being willing to take an uncharacteristic count out win. It had a slower pace as Cena tried to wear down Rollins but it picked up when Cena realised he wouldn't be able to beat Rollins that way. A great match with a good finish. There was some good psychology in the Elias match too as Seth hurt his knee again and Elias then targeted that for the rest of the match. It was a really great and memorable performance by Rollins. The rest of the gauntlet isn't shown as it's not relevant to the DVD but we see the best hour of it.The Miz vs. Finn Balor vs. Seth Rollins - This Triple Threat match was for The Miz's Intercontinental Championship and it was a great way to kick off Wrestlemania 34. It was a fast paced match full of memorable action with plenty of counters and three way moments. There were some good, convincing near falls and saves as well as a clean and satisfying finish. It was as good as you'd expect a match with these three to be.Roman Reigns vs. Dean Ambrose - This was the finals of a tournament to crown a new WWE Champion after Seth Rollins relinquished it due to injury. It's a really good, enjoyable match but it feels too short. If the match came directly after the previous tournament matches that would have felt more appropriate because of their exhaustion but this match was almost two hours after their previous ones. It's still a good, back and forth competitive match with some good near falls though. Sheamus cashing in Money in the Bank following the match is shown too.Sheamus vs. Roman Reigns - This was for the WWE Championship and if Roman lost he would be fired. It was a great match. It had some really good booking that helped stack the odds against Roman and really build the fan support for him. It had interference but it all added to the drama of the match and made it even better. It was a very good, back and forth, dramatic and hard hitting match.Triple H vs. Roman Reigns - This was for the WWE championship, it was a slower and more methodical match than it needed to be. They switched between wrestling and brawling, with Triple H aiming his attack at the previously broken nose of Reigns and then later on Reigns' arm and shoulder. Reigns fought back and speared Triple H through the barricade. He hit another spear back in the ring but his shoulder and arm were too hurt to capitalise. The match was decent, there were good moments and the work made sense but it could have been a better and more exciting match if it was about ten minutes shorter. On the plus side Stephanie got speared which gained the biggest cheer of the match.Roman Reigns vs. The Undertaker - This match is no holds barred which I don't think was announced prior to the matches introduction. The match started off fast and they both hit each other with some big moves including a spear through the announce table. After this the match slowed down with both men hurting they traded finishing blows until they had a winner. There were a few awkward/sloppy moments in the match unfortunately but It was still a decent match although it could have been so much better if The Undertaker was fully healthy. It didn't live up to the hype but I don't think it was as bad as people said at the time. It went downhill towards the finish and was overall disappointing.Roman Reigns vs. John Cena - This match was built up as something of a dream match with all the hype around it. It was very good. It started off slow with Cena not taking Roman too seriously but when it really got started it was a very good match. Roman controlled a lot of it but they still looked very even for the most part. There were so many near falls and memorable moments. I don't think it quite lived up to all the hype around it but it came very close. A great match.Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns - This was a Steel Cage match for the WWE Universal Championship. It was the kind of match you'd expect it to be. Lesnar threw Reigns around with multiple suplexes and F5s while Reigns tried to recover enough to hit his superman punches and spears. It was all big moves from the very start. It was an entertaining back and forth fight but it had a screwy finish which was unfortunate. This was a great DVD. The match quality is incredibly high for the majority of the set. Roman Reigns' Wrestlemania matches aren't up to the standard of all the other ones but even they aren't bad. If you don't already own too many of these matches then this is a DVD well worth getting. Even if you do own most PPV DVDs there are still a few unreleased matches here, Dean Ambrose vs. Triple H, Seth Rollins' gauntlet and Roman Reigns vs. Sheamus, that could make it worth owning once it becomes cheap anyway as they are three great matches.
