Before purchasing this canvas I did a lot of research. My paintings are not museum quality but I do sell them in art shows, and this canvas is the ideal solution to keep costs low and deliver a quality product at the same time. The pre-primed side is smooth and virtually no flaws. It would be your discretion whether or not to gesso. Personally I do not. When it comes down to the math you can not be the deal for the size, pre-primed, and quality of this product.

This product is terrible! I have been stretching my own canvas for a long time, and this is the first time that I ever used this kind. First piece started ripping the second any pressure was applied to stretch it. If you can't stretch the canvas smooth without it ripping, then what is the point in buying this canvas roll???? None in my opinion! Don't waste your money! Wish I could get a refund!!!! Product packaging says unprimed but mine came primed. Company that can't package and label properly. Inferior in every way!!!!

Firstly, the packaging was sublime. It arrived in a long box, in which the canvas bolt was in an even longer bag. This canvas is pre-primed, and the manufacturers were even smart enough to roll it up with the priming on the inside so it will not get dirty even if it wasn't protected by the aforementioned box and bag. I have stretched a number of large scale canvases with this item, and have not had a single tear, even with a lot of pressure from the leverage using canvas pliers. If you are looking to save some money by stretching your own canvases, this item is the thing you need to get started. The price of this bolt is close to the price you'd pay for ONE gallery quality canvas. When I run out of this item, I will, most definitely, be buying this again - even if the price is doubled.

I am cutting yet more of this roll which reminded me to write a review.This does not have Gesso on it and they do not say that it has. What it does have on it is 'size' and that is what they say is on it, at least on the label when it arrives.The' size' they put on makes it perfect for handling enough to cut smaller. It also means that for acrylics you can go ahead and use straight away, as is, or for Oils you need to Gesso it.I highly recommend this product and will order again as soon as mine comes towards the end.

Good painting surface. Almost a little too lightweight. Itʻs easy to tear around staples when stretching. You have to be careful.

This is great canvas at an excellent value! Some reviews had me concerned but i’m so happy with this purchase!

We've used a number of different types of canvas and haven't had issues, but you can't stretch this without it tearing. It has ruined or nearly ruined every canvas we've tried to stretch. I would suggest going to Utrecht and finding something else. I don't know if the reviewers giving it five stars got a different product than I did, if they are old ladies who stretch canvases so poorly that they wave around in the wind like a sail when stretched, or if they are relatives of the people who make it/sell it, but it was not worth 1/5 of the money we spent on it. We still have half the roll left and we're looking into buying something that won't tear and shredding this for kitty litter.

For the extremely discount price I paid for this I am very happy. I needed to work with extra large canvas sizes for my paint studio class for one semester - minimum 1x1 metre - NOT easy to work with, OR cheap! This roll saved my wallet!!This does come primed - for anyone wondering if this is unprimed cotton canvas it is *not* - it's standard white gesso on one side. The size is enormous, frankly, but thats the great value in it. I didnt use this canvas for fine art paintings - used for 3 or 6 hour studio sessions with walnut oil paints. I primed with additional gesso before using. I also didn't stretch any of the canvas pieces I cut - preferring to let them dry after a paint session and then roll them up to fit in a tube for easier transport. This was really sufficient for my needs, and the price I got it for on here was less than half of what any of the art supply stores were offering.Plus, prime shipping!

I almost didnt buy this after reading some of the reviews, but decided it was still the best value for me. It is primed on one side and seems to be an ok thickness, still on the thin side, but i see no issues. I will edit my review later after i have used it more, if i find it is not up to the job(acrylic painting).

Horrible product, cannot withstand any significant amount of pressure being applied when stretching resulting in tearing which itself leads to loose hanging canvas. Do not buy if you are intending to exhibit the work you make on this canvas. I've wasted a lot of time on this canvas and the company has not responded to my e-mails asking for a refund or even an explanation for how their product is so shoddy. Not worth the time or money you will spend.
