A stunning, beautiful, delightful masterpiece
Loose Cannons is a beautiful movie about a young gay man in a large, loving and eccentric Southern Italian family. His plan to free himself from the family pasta business by coming out as gay misfires early in the movie, and the remaining ninety minutes cover how his dilemma is resolved. But this is far, far more than a coming-out movie. Themes of life and death and immortality and family and love lost and found run like deep, rich rivers of life throughout the story, and it is astonishing how much emotional ground is covered so effectively in just one movie. Each one of the dozen or so highly differentiated characters is fully and richly developed, and not one of them is short-changed or stereotyped.I got Loose Cannons because I have loved the earlier works of Ferzan Ozpetec, particularly His Secret Life, Facing Windows, Sacred Heart, and - most of all - Saturn in Opposition, but Loose Cannons surpasses them all. Each of its predecessors had minor flaws and occasional weak moments, but Loose Cannons has none.As usual in his movies, photography, sets and music are highly original and perfectly fitted to the story: if it were a silent movie it would be beautiful just to look at; if it were a radio program it would be delightful just to listen to. This is the first of his movies to integrate a significant amount of comedy into his usually serious but highly imaginative dramas, and he does it expertly; I laughed out loud almost as often as I wept with delight. This movie is a masterpiece. I cannot imagine how a better movie could ever be made, but Ozpetec is young still, so I am confident he will do it somehow. I can say without any reservation at all that this is the best movie I have ever seen.(In Italian with excellent English subtitles, but the Italian DVD available as of May 2011 has no subtitles for the extensive extra materials.)

Amazing! A true family movie!
This a fresh breath of air in the genre of gay cinema. Too often we are left with cliche movies about the gay "scene" and we don't see films like this reflecting real life experiences of coming out to family and friends. I can't think of anything I hate or even dislike about this movie. The camera work was superb. The setting was amazing. The actors and actress' brought these characters to life which shows their skill and talent. I was convinced that everyone was who they portrayed. Even the "eye candy" was shown with grace and style and never overpowered the story or scene. The comedy woven into the story was perfect. As a gay man I would proudly show this to anyone I know even the ones who don't necessarily support the gay community. There is nothing overwhelming in it that I should cause any concern for those wanting to show this to a younger or teenage audience. Can't wait to see more films by this talented crew!

A funny & deeply moving film
This film is Ferzan Oezpetek's cinematic masterpiece! The movie is a funny, deeply moving, exploration of the lives of various members of the Cantone family as they all try to cope with the day-to-day business of living their lives. The characters are both pitch-perfect and larger-than-life. Though the film touches, tangentially, on LGBT themes, the film is really dealing with deeper questions: What does it mean to be a family? What does it mean to be a lover, a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a man? These are all questions worth considering and the film will help you do that. Enjoy it!

Interesting
The characters and plot lines are fresh and tasteful. The idea of personal responsibility to self and family is universal, and this could have been hugely dark or overly melodramatic. This is, instead, a pleasant movie.

Great Movie, Worth it any second
This was a good movie to watch; great acting, film making and music. i am not familiar with the culture, but the glimpse you get out is very well done. You go through generations and see how times change superficial things, but what matters stays very much along generations. I like the scene when the friends arrive to the mansion. Very Very funny. All actors do an amazing job and transfer their emotions to us effortlessly. It is worth to watch this movie, it is an easy movie with a good spirit

The younger son was the central character and it was easy to empathize with his role and how it played ...
This was an interesting movie that drew me in and involved with the story. It was more of a drama than a comedy as supposed by the trailer. This gay themed movie involved a very homophobic father who had two sons whom he wanted to take over the family business. Both sons were gay and the story presented how they were able to confront the father in their individual ways in order to live the life they wanted with neither interested in the family business. The younger son was the central character and it was easy to empathize with his role and how it played out.

I can't remember when I laughed...
I can't remember when I last laughed so heartily while watching a movie alone. This film was a delight and it's innate silliness and outrageous scenes explored some of the foibles of the reactions of people to their individual circumstances, their judgments about what others might think or do "if they find out" led to some comical dynamics. It was an example of a movie just for the fun of it. Let down your guard, put up your volume and clean your glasses, then settle in on a cold, snowy night for some human warmth.

Surprisingly dreadful
As an out gay man (for decades), I was eager to see this "comedy" import. I have no idea why this depressing melodrama is getting positive reviews, truly. The director already made a downbeat gay film a few years ago, and seems determined to have people behaving in 1960's style bias in modern day films. An wealthy Italian family acting like this? The three queens seen was stupid. Acting throughout broad and aggressively unfunny to me. Ugh!
