These are a nice compact design. They come with instructions, which whilst easy enough to understand, did lack a vital bit of information and it was purely chance that I tried my theory out and it worked. You are told to press and hold the on/off switch to both turn on and turn off. But that’s all it says. However, I noticed there are three heat settings, 180/220/280 and I believed it comes on at 180 and then as it’s flashing, I assumed it goes to the highest setting and then you can use it. However, this is not the case. Basically a short press of the on/off switch will then toggle between the three different heat settings, so you can use on the cooler one if your prefer etc…If I have any complaints it is that although you can safely pop it on the surface without burning anything, due to the built in stand design, I would prefer a heatproof mat or carry case so I can pop it straight away without having to wait for it to cool down. However, I expect you could easily purchase such an item relatively cheaply, so not a big problem. My only other complaint was that part of the built in stand, along the end of the barrel caught my hair a few times and pulled some hair out, which was a little frustrating. That said, I think once you get used to it and using them, you probably wouldn’t keep doing that.The barrel is ceramic coated and very smooth, without feeling like it was snagging my hair at all. For the price, these are a great little item, lightweight for travelling, but I also feel they are plenty robust enough to use as your day to day tongs. They gave my hair a smooth natural looking curl where I wanted it and simple to use.
