Attera Totus Sanctus

Well, it’s been a long time coming but Dark Funeral have finally recorded a new studio album. After a four year wait, ‘Attera Totus Sanctus’ is a hugely anticipated record.Since their last studio release, ‘Diabolis Interim’, Dark Funeral have endured several changes in line-up. However, these appear to be the only changes in the Dark Funeral camp.From the first bar of opener, the rather predictably titled ‘King Antichrist’, ‘Attera…’ establishes itself as reassuringly familiar Dark Funeral.Uncompromising in its ferocity, and relentlessly aggressive, each of these eight tracks are instant contenders for your new favourite Dark Funeral song.Underneath the primitive squall of guitars and intense vocals, there lies a subtle undercurrent of melody which seems to have matured since ‘Diabolis Interim’. This becomes apparent on songs like standout track ‘Angel Flesh Impaled’, which lends the album a polished and accomplished sound.Ultimately, ‘Attera…’ is not an album of great diversity or variety, and Dark Funeral never stray too far from their tried and tested trademark sound. In fact, their sound has hardly changed at all in their 12 years together. They have simply progressed and grown into a better band.Someone once said ‘if it’s not broke, don’t fix it’. Ich finde die CD sehr gut, denn jedes Lied hat was besonderes an sich. Als ich mir die CD gekauft hatte, kannte ich nur das Lied "King antichrist" und war sehr begeistert von dieser im Hintergrund ertönenden, melancholischen Melodie. Die sich auch in den anderen Liedern dieser CD, in anderer Form wiederfindet.

Natürlich kann man es nicht jedem Recht machen, der eine mag harten Black Metal, der andere Bruckner. Aber das Gute am Black Metal ist, dass er sich offensichtlich vom Christentum distanziert und vermutlich ist das der erste Schritt zum eigenständigen Denken. Eine "links-atheistische" CD ist dieses Album sicherlich noch nicht, aber das macht nichts, wenn man sich erst einmal mit der antichristlichen Kernbotschaft begnügen will. Wer allerdings wirklich einen "zweiten Gott" haben möchte, sollte sich fragen, ob er wirklich eigenständig ist.Diese CD eignet sich auch zum Ausleben von diversen Fetischen. Es ist eigentlich für jeden was dabei, nur für Nonnen und Priester dürfte es schwer werden.

Dark Funeral is one of my all time favorite bands. This album is phenomenal from start to finish. Seeing them live for the first time, i was blown away and had to buy their albums immediately. All Dark Funeral albums are amazing and should be enjoyed.
