Excellent giallo!
Until I saw the killer was wearing tight, black gloves, I had no idea where this film was going: While Pearl deconstructed the golden age of Technicolor and X does the same for slashers, Maxxxine breaks apart giallos, a much lesser known genre in America. If you want the full experience, at least check out Four Flies on Grey Velvet and The Red Queen Kills Seven Times before watching Maxxxine, although there are many, many other great examples of giallo to choose from. This is an excellent film from start to finish and that Maxxxine sticks to her guns about following her intentions to become "like one of the people from Cosmopolitan," is a pretty amazing feat when she's constantly being tracked by killers!!!Like Pearl and X before it, Maxxxine is an incredibly exciting flick. Let's face it: Mia Goth is the most talented actress of her generation.

Maxxxine Roxxx!
This is a surprisingly good finale to the 'X' trilogy by Ti West, and starring Mia Goth in multiple roles. If you haven't seen "Pearl", you might be okay, but if you haven't seen "X", watch that one first. You might get a little confused about some of the things in "Maxxxine" that are payoff plot-points from the previous film ("X").Maxxxine Minx is the stage name of Mia Goth's character, who wants to get out of the adult film business and into the legit film world. At the same time, someone is killing young women in Hollywood in 1985. And then someone, either a copycat or the same killer, is also killing off Mia Goth's friends and associates. (One of whom is a literal genius about videotapes back in 1985. It's actually a really cool character idea). If you know the previous film, "X", the ending and the killer is no great surprise. But it is still carried off extremely well. The most impressive thing about the film to me is the fact that it looks EXACTLY like a film from 1985. The film grain and colors look about as accurate as I can remember from that time period. The soundtrack is loaded with mid-1980's nostalgia songs, which I confess I loved. The camera styles, the editing, everything looks as about as 80's as I've seen anywhere - since the 1980's, really. It's got enough gore in it for the horror fans, and enough little homages to other horror films from that same time period to make it fun for any fan to try and figure out. ("Okay, was that bit a nod to "Scanners", by David Cronenberg?")Maybe not a masterpiece, but a firm and hearty thumbs-up, for those "At The Movies" fans of Siskel and Ebert. Who would probably have hated this film, seeing as it's imitating the 'trashy horror aesthetic of the 1980's'.Get this one. But watch "X" first. You'll be glad you got both.My only quibble is that the version of the New Order song "Shellshock" used in the soundtrack did not get released until 1986, while the story is set in 1985. But only film and music nerds like me will notice!

Very good. X is best. Maxxxine and Pearl are equally good

Cinema
the perfect ending to a trilogy, showing maxine’s trauma from x was displayed beautifully. and i love how it also showed more of her trauma before 1978. every shot was beautiful, the lighting, the angle ti west and mia goth are absolutely genius’s! the kill scene for leon was absolutely incredible, when the knife of being taken out and maxine is pulling the highlighter up at the same take is literally cinema. also realizing every piece of her truama has been recorded. her dad recorded her in the church in the 40s-50s, wayne and the others filmed their adult film while the murders took place in 78’ and again her dad recorded all the killing and the “movie” exposing Hollywood, so all the truama she has faced has been on film. she also became everything pearl wanted to be, younger and more blonde AND A STAR, maxine dropped a few pearl lines in this movie too! “forcing me to do awful terrible murderous things. also at the end she said “i’m a star the whole world is gonna know my name” which she also said in x as pearl also did in her movie! and in the beginning maxine was doing the dance pearl did in her church audition back in 1918! also maxine put out her cigarette on theda bara star of fame, which in pearl she rode past the movie poster of cleopatra 1917 movie staring theda bara!! every detail in this movie means something this changed my life and everyone should see it!!

Good movie, not my fav however.
While I love this movie, I didn't enjoy it as much as X or Pearl. Felt sloppy and confusing at the end. Didn't like the gore. Yet I loved the look, the music and whole atmosphere. I don't regret watching it, glad to have seen all three films. I'm not sure what could have made it better for me, but I'm thinking it's about the backstory around her and her father, sort of vague in a way. Like something is missing here. But again still well worth watching.

Poorly packaged
Great item, arrived damaged due to amazon's woefully inadequate packaging for an item sent from the US to the UK. Disappointing...

Great film
This film got a lot of slack but it's the third installment in a horror trilogy. Very rare!!! Agreed that it's not the best of the three but it does compliment the other two well. Very entertaining film and well done. A great end to the story!!!! Would Recommend. (Don't expect Pearl)

The BEST!! so far...
In my opinion the best movie of the "trilogy".I'm a sucker for 80's sleaze and music and this movie had lots of both. But it remains to be seen if this was the end or if we will see more of Maxxxine Mynx in the future.Excellent 4k-scan and audio.Unrelated:I found a mediabook version of X on Amazon Deutchland that has both a 4k and blu ray-version of the movie.I only wish i had mediabooks for all 3 films though because it looks even better than this steelbook.
