Newly updated classic high-school dictionary
Flipping through pages of a printed dictionary is something that feel almost archaic these days - but it’s a unique experience, and gives you an opportunity to pick up random bits, images and associated definitions which efficient and precise search engines will not show you. This refreshed edition from Merriam-Webster adds 200 new words to its 110,000 definitions, and keeps a 1280 pages to a manageable size by leveraging a very small print and translucently-thin paper. The print quality is perfect for this miniature font, but the paper is thin enough for next page’s text to be visible through, making the pages difficult to read unless lifted up. The paper, despite thinness, is strong enough to survive continued use, the hard covers are not fancy, but substantial and solid - this dictionary is definitely built to survive some abuse.Overall a solid buy for a high-schooler who still has a preference for a printed reference source.

Excellent Resource
I bought two of these as gifts for my 13 year-old nephews, and they liked the dictionary very much. I think we are oftentimes better off using something like this rather than the internet for reference, as it's something you can count on to be correct. I'm sure this dictionary will be of great help to them for years to come.

Just like the old days
I am very pleased with this Merriam Webster's school dictionary for high school students. This is a hard back version of the old school dictionaries that I grew up with. They seem to be well made. The pages are lightweight, but they were able to handle all of the abuse I gave them when pouring over the dictionary when I first received it. I flipped about quickly. I pulled on pages aggressively, and none of the pages tore. It felt so great to be holding a book in my hand that was filled with more than 110,000 words and their definitions in one place. This is an updated dictionary that includes modern words that are commonly used these days. For any high school student who is going to be doing a lot of writing and needs suggestions on how to abbreviate properly, how to spell biographical and geographical names, or need tips on writing. This is truly a great resource and would make a fabulous gift. As an adult I am already enjoying being able to flip it open randomly and pointing my finger to find new words. There's nothing like holding a dictionary in your hand and exploring for fun!

Nothing beats a paper dictionary for discovery
This Merriam-Webster's School Dictionary is excellent! The book is very high quality and filled with words, pronunciation guides, little pictures, and other helpful features. It's great to have your student (or yourself) just page through the dictionary and find words you've never seen before, discover definitions, and find connections between words.HIGHLY recommended!

Merriam-Webster's School Dictionary
While the paper stock quality is not like my The World Book Encyclopedias from the mid 80's (still have them and use them occasionally) this is good enough at the price point and should last awhile, especially for kids in junior high/high school, just treat / turn the pages carefully. The hard cover is nice and I have no reservation recommending it.This feature is what I consider value added: "Special sections contain abbreviations, biographical and geographical names, signs and symbols, and a Handbook of Style" and is especially useful and appreciated...happy to see Genghis and Kublai Khan are listed in there, who were important historical figures that affected many regions in Asia, including Korea, historically, as Goryeo.
