Nice sheath for the Chogan Tomahawk
I read all the reviews on this sheath before purchasing for my Chogan Tomahawk and decided on this model. Some of the reviews that I read must have been written by some high end leather sheath users - as the comments on the poor leather construction was mentioned more than once. Most leather products are slightly stiff until broken in and this sheath is no exception. I had no problems with the quality of the leather, the stitching or the riveting of the individual leather components. I threw a quick paracord wrap on the Chogan handle just to see if I could use the sheath with it? Initially, the handle strap was too tight to go around the paracord wrap - but not by much. After working the sheath for flexibility and treating with Neatsfoot oil, it now fits nicely around the paracord handle wrap. The entire sheath is loosening up nicely. I have no doubt that this sheath will continue to loosen up and give many years of service. I love reading reviews and sometimes even leave my own - but you really have to take reviews with a grain of salt and make your own decisions.

Decent holder
So let me first say the quality of this, it’s just OK. It’s made from little leather scraps that Have basically been pieced, sewn and snapped together. The leather itself is of low quality. (I have a friend who does leatherwork professionally so I know a little about it) The workmanship is passable, there was already some fraying leather right out of the box but not too bad. Nothing that would affect its functionality, I just shaved it off with a pocket knife. But let’s be honest, what’s the job this thing is trying to do? Hold a hand ax. You don’t need premium leather to do that job, and if they killed an animal to give me a full piece fabricated leather hand ax holder, I’d be disappointed when piecing together scraps will do the same job fine. It’s not gonna break when you’re using it. It’s not going to fail and allow the tomahawk to damage anything in your pack. It’s not going to cut through the case. This is basically fine for the job it needs to do, and in my opinion it kind a looks cool, but that’s a preference thing. Here’s my biggest peeve with this case that is actually an issue. The bottom snap does not initially fit around the handle of the Tomahawk it was designed to carry. That’s a problem. With that being said it is easily fixable. Simply snap together and wiggle the handle of the tomahawk through the hole while its snapped together. Leave it for a while, then find the thickest part of the tomahawk shaft and gently push the leather closure up to it, far as it will go, you want to push it past its limits, but you don’t want to break open the snap. Let it sit there a while, and then move it back down to a thinner part of the shaft to let it rest, and then do it again. I don’t know how many times of this or how long is actually necessary, I had a day at home so I just took a whole day of doing that in between chores and such because I didn’t wanna bother with it again if I didn’t do it for long enough. By the end the leather is stretched out enough that it functioned tightly, but it did function, and you don’t really want it to be super loose anyway. I don’t really think this is a huge deal seeing as how it can be fixed, and it’s very simple and easy to do. I do however feel it should be a little cheaper if it’s not going to fit the shaft right out of the box but hey, Who cares about my personal opinions right?

You need to condition this leather before use!
So as many are saying this leather is dry. They are right, that's normal for leather to dry. You need to condition this leather with mink oil or some other product before bending. If you don't do this it might Crack. Conditioning will also help the leather stretch making the button snaps easier to use.

Metal snaps.
Ok, so I read all the reviews for this sheath before buying it and I was very scepticle. A lot of the reviews say that the sheath has plastic snaps or now there metal so CRKT must have listened. That sent a red flag up like some of those reviews must be fake. I also do some leather work so I knew I could change out the snaps if I had too. Let me say mine just arrived five minutes ago and the snaps are metal. The straps do fit and the leather is a bit on the thin side. However for lashing it to a day pack it will be just fine. I would not place it on my belt anyway, if I did need to carry it hands free for some reason I would just slide the handle through my belt anyway. Optics planet filled my order here and the shipping was about a week, we'll worth the wait. I am very pleased. Check out my pic, it's the one on the counter and I'll see you in the back country.

Covers nicely
Could come preconditioned but not an issue at all.

Dry as the desert ,quite sad.
This hide comes extremely dry, you must condition as to be of any good, not a problem kinda need that information as to being useful. It needs to have conditioner, like a baseball glove which I did .. On a nother note being so dry it didn't fit the hawk it was designed for,I had to grind a bit off my kogan hawk to make it fit,. Fortunately I like metal work and crafts.. I have found in doing so ,my hawk is a bit more balanced,... Don't get me started on the handles,I don't know who's picking these tree being used, one basically disintegrated being thrown for a week, while the two replacement handles have really bad grain lines, meaning failure down the road. I give this as a true experience and tested one,it chops ok.😘

Not good
Unlike their knives and tools this is poorly constructed. The leather is thinner than expected and very dry. The fastening that holds the hammer is very large and the one that holds the shaft doesn’t go round the handle, leading me to believe they are the wrong way round. I have taken axe head part off and solely use that, I doubt the belt loop would hold up vey long. Disappointed as the axe itself is very good.

Fits perfect, looks perfect
I received it only a few days ago and the sheath fits perfect and seems to be good quality. Time will tell how the metal snaps will hold. They click tight and stay tight. The true test will be when the sheath is attached to a belt and I go on a long treks in the woods. Will the snaps hold? Time will tell and I will update this little review.

Still need to improve
Overall is passable, indeed as other reviews have said, the strap holding the handle is too tight, but it can be worked, lock the strap first, then push the strap from the bottom of the handle to about 3cm above the correct position, then use damp Wrap the belt with a towel until it's wet, then remove the wet towel and let the belt sit in the shade for a few hours to dry (no sun exposure and hot air speed). The straps will then be shaped to fit perfectly. On the dry and hard issue, I use Organic Camellia knife Oil to coat the entire sheath to make it soft and shiny, but this turns it dark brown. Overall I can only give this sheath a passing score, it has a lot to improve, and while some issues can be solved by yourself, obviously not everyone is willing to perfect the product at home. Also the leather responsible for the link is so thin that I highly doubt its durability. All in all, if you carry an axe in your backpack, I recommend it, it can protect other items in the backpack from being damaged by the axe, and if you are used to having an axe outside your backpack or on your belt, then I don't recommend it. Because its belt mount may be damaged.
