Players take on the roles of amateur spelunkers navigating a perilous network of underground tunnels, facing various hazards and challenges. With gameplay lasting around 60 minutes, it promises an exciting experience for family game nights or gatherings with friends.

A fresh an intense horror board game
I love the Descent movies and this game captures that perfectly. Cooperation is definitely key to surviving, using each caver's abilities to help the team over come obstacles and push closer to the exit. Obstacles can really reduce life and healing can really burn up actions. Since event cards are limited until the lights go out, you don't want a stack of tiles left to explore when the event cards get low. In the beginning things seem harmless enough, but as flood, gas and cave-ins occur, the team slows down. After all, when a caver loses their 3 life, they fall unconscious until healed. But obstacles aren't all that's down here with you. Nightmarish "horrors" lurk in the caverns and can appear to knock cavers unconscious. It's the end however things really gets intense. Each event phase, all cavers make a skill roll on a die. Those who fail are devoured. I played solo with 4 cavers. I had 1 caver make it to the exit on the turn before the lights went out. 2 horrors on my heels. 2 cavedrs surcame to the horrors, and 1 to gas. Very fun, challenging and intense.

Great Game
I'm going to make this a super simple review:1. The game is VERY easy to play. If you get confused, Youtube a tutorial. But you'll get the hang of it in no time.2. Great for people who don't often play games: it's that easy to catch onto.3. Each game can end differently. Sometimes you're devoured by monsters. Sometimes you beat the monsters before they even get a chance to strike. Sometimes you find yourself cornered in a massive cave-in surrounded by two monsters and the people who are your "friends" abandon you because apparently you're a "lost cause" and not worth going back for. Ahem. Anyway.4. Ships great and looks wonderful. Not a piece was missing nor was anything broken.5. Has multiple expansion packs to help create harder games and add different elements to it.6. Has different levels of difficulty so you can change things up.7. Can take an hour, can take longer - just depends on what's going on and how well people work together! So yeah - good stuff! I recommend it.

Fun Survival Co-op Game!
In Sub Terra, players are a lost expedition of cavers trying to escape the dangers and horrors of the subterranean world! The game plays very much like Pandemic in that each player takes on a roll with special powers designed to help each other survive. Instead of a game board, however, Sub Terra uses randomly placed tiles to represent the caves. In terms of theme, this game is a TEN:Players are trying to make it out of the caves before time runs out! A deck of event cards represents both the dangers the players will face and acts like a timer. One event card is revealed each turn and describes a danger the players must face together; and what dangers! The team must face floods, tremors, collapsing tunnels, deadly gas and HORRIFIC MONSTER FROM THE DARK!! Yes, this game has monsters! Yeah! When the deck runs out, the players only have until the batteries in their flashlights run out to escape! Should your flashlight go dark, you are lost in the darkness FOREVER!!! Unfortunately, this last part of the game is the make or break part of the game (and hence the loss of a star) for most players. When the event deck runs out, at the start of each player's turn they roll a die. If they roll good, they get their turn; if they roll bad, their batteries have died....and then they die. Yes, this game has player elimination and it's completely random. I think it fits the theme of the game, but I can see how many players would be annoyed by this. So, Sub Terra is a great game.....for the right crowd. I recommend 'try before you buy.'

Never the same game
Great game! Never gets old because the game doesn’t play the same way twice. Easy enough to learn and great cooperative game!

Infinite replayability!
My husband and I discovered this game a few months ago, and we absolutely love it! We have played several times together each playing two characters and it's never been the same game twice. We've also played it with our gaming group and they all love it too! They ask often for us to play a game before we start our bigger game of the night. We all know the rules by now so it runs pretty quickly. The version we got had the plastic markers for the water and rubble which makes it a bit nicer, but the card board cut outs for the ropes and health tokens are sturdy and we haven't had any issues with the tiles or anything. The artwork is awesome! We have since purchased the next two expansions the Annihilation and Investigation. This is one of mine and my husband's favorite game, so I'll definitely upgrade our characters to the new miniatures that are out now, at some point. And we will for certain get the Extraction expansion too. I would highly recommend this game to people who love a co-op game and are fans of dark creepy caves! My advice for you during the game.....Keep Moving!

"...where Teamwork meets Competition"
Cooperative game that makes the true competitor come out in anyone! I have come to enjoy the small details when it comes to board games and each piece looks as if they were hand-painted. Absolutely stunning tiles with easy to follow rule-book. This game is a great beginner game into the world of "non-monopoly" board games! I love how we are all competing toward the same goal and that goal is to get out, together. Very well done and simply beautiful

A favorite of mine
I love Subterra. Unlike many similar co-op games, the game play is fairly simple to grasp so anyone can learn. The game really makes you feel like your stuck in a cave and trying to get out. Each game feels different too which I can't say for all co-op games, so the replayability is quite high.I even bought this for my family and they're not usually in to this kind of game, but they really enjoyed Subterra!
