WHEN DID YOU STOP FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS?!?! Read them!!
Unbelievable the amount of negative reviews in this product stating that it doesn't spin right, or THREE video reviews showing THE COMPLETELY WRONG WAY TO ASSEMBLE IT! Did you READ the directions? If you assemble it like the directions tell you to, it works flawlessly, and spins freely even just moving it slightly through still air!The "stopper" part, shaped like a spool, is not a retainer for the pinwheel petals, it is a BEARING. It is mis-named in the instructions, but it is shown being assembled in the correct manner in the pictures. You have to snap the petals over the thinner side of the spool-shaped bearing, then snap the bearing onto the "rod". Works great. Fiddly to assemble? Hell, yes, especially if you have arthritis. But it works as advertised when done correctly.I cheated and put the bearing on to the rod, thinner side out, and then snapped each petal onto the bearing. Still works great.

These DO spin. See instructions below.
Birds are building nests in very inconvenient locations very close to my house so I wanted a humane and pretty way to keep them at bay. I will say, the included instructions are not helpful. The installation video was helpful for a moment but not when I couldn’t figure out why my pinwheels didn’t spin. The video is also way too fast paced. It took me an hour to put them together (because of troubleshooting…and taking them apart and putting them back together again, four times before figuring out how to actually put them together AND have them spin). But, hopefully my instructions will help those of you who are struggling to put such a simple-looking item together. I really never thought I would have to post instructions for putting a pinwheel together but here it goes. Photos should correlate with each step.1. Lay out one full pinwheel set2. Start by inserting a section of pinwheel flap over the small hollow connector. The very important key here is to make sure the SLIM end is facing the OUTSIDE. the WIDE end should be facing the INSIDE.3. Continue layering each pinwheel flap on top of the previous flap over the SLIM side.4. You have completed the difficult part. Pat yourself on the back.5. Put the decorative circular cover over top of the SLIM side to cover the pinwheel flap layers. I chose the silver color but it is reversible with a star on the other side.6. Insert the white arm through the back of the pinwheel and into the WIDE part of the connector.7. It will be difficult to push the arm into the wide connector but continue pushing until you hear a CLICK. Yes, it will click. If it has not clicked, it has not been secured properly and will not spin.8. You are done! Reward yourself for your patience.I could only make 9 pinwheels because I was missing one connector. I was able to tape the pinwheel sections together and get by without the connector. It still spins, but not as well as the ones with connectors. I will say that the durability seems pretty good as I had to take them apart multiple times and put them back together to fix my mistakes. Nothing ripped which was impressive. If you do not mind spending a little bit of time to put them together, I would say buy them. If you have arthritis in your hands or difficulty using fine motor skills, just buy them at the dollar store instead. I really only bought these for the patriotic pattern.

Ok but not as good as older ones
Purchased to replace old ones that are not available anymore. Cheaper components, not quite as nice and mainly they dont spin as freely and require more airflow before they start spinning… a bit disappointing but will hopefully still deter birds efficiently

Easy once you understand how to do it
The media could not be loaded. When I first opened the box I was ready to throw them away. I knew I had to assemble them myself before offering but the instructions are not good. Once I figured out the first one I had it done to about 1 minute to assemble one pinwheel. I took pictures and a video, hopefully it’ll help others. There’s a black “spike” that his on the bottom of the stem and a white piece that goes in the top. The instructions are ok for that part. It’s putting the pinwheel part together that is tricky. There is a tiny white center piece which one side is larger than the other. I suggest placing this piece big side down on a flat surface. Then put the pinwheel over the top of it. At this point the little side is poking through the middle of the pinwheel. Take any of the little cut out circle holes on the edge of the pinwheel and push it on the piece. Just move around the outside anti clockwise putting each hole on the center piece. See my video for details. When you put it in the stem make sure to push it all the way on so it spins properly. I hope this helps other people build them! They are really cute and once I figured out how to build them it was a really quick process. I haven’t placed them outside yet (it’s almost midnight here!) but I’ll update if I have any issues!

They don’t spin
The instructions are not good. It’s kind of logical to put then together but they don’t spin easily at all. I bought them as a coyote deterrent and they just don’t spin!!! Any suggestion to make them spin would be helpful.

beyond your wildest expectation
Hard to say if it works on birds. The kids loved them. Make sure you print out the assembly instructions. None came in the box. Once you assemble one the rest are simple. The kids have had a ball with these since I assembled them. I gave three to the neighbors kids. They were a big hit. All day zooming around with these pinwheels. They are durable and have survived several storms. all are still rotating in even the slightest wind. I put one in each aisle of my garden. I did not see many birds but lots of kids. It has been several months and they are all still working.. The stick is a little short but they are just the right size for kids hands. Sort of attractive watching them all moving in the breeze. Lots of fun and well worth the cost.Well I have had these for 1.5 years and the kids and I still like them. They are all still working. They are all still sparkly. I brought them in for the winter but they went out early in the spring. Not sure if the birds liked them or not but they have been a lot of fun. They turn and sparkle with the slightest of wind. Excellent value for my money.

The pinwheels all blew off the stakes in the wind the first day I put them in the garden!!!
There were no instructions in the package as stated, so I had to figure out how to put them together. Once I did I placed them in the garden on a semi-windy day. I went out a couple of hours later and most of the pinwheels had blown off in the wind, all I was left with was the black stake standing in my garden. It was great there were extra pinwheels in the packet, but pointless when there were no extra fixtures to put them on to the end of the stakes. I wasted my money, time and effort on these pinwheels!!!
