I don't want to turn this into a political diatribe but we are hamstrung by our laws in this country somewhat when it comes to self-defense products. This personal alarm from TeckNet is about as close as you are allowed to get to protecting yourself unfortunately. I say "unfortunately" not because of the item though, but because of the law(s).The item is compact but it has a solid, strong plastic build. It is USB rechargeable and a USB cord is provided. The unit is a good size and would fit well into a handbag or pocket. You could have it on your keyring perhaps as a carabiner clip is provided in the box also.In terms of functionality the unit has a central button but this button controls the light emitting aspect. One click activates the light as a full beam and a second click makes the light flash intermittently like a strobe light. In order to activate the aural alarm you must pull the ring out from the top end of the unit. The noise is obviously pretty loud and stops when you put the ring back into the unit.Overall I like it for what it is. It is sturdy and loud/bright when activated. It is a solid and reliable enough little item. I wish two things - firstly that it wasn't needed in the first place and secondly that we could be a little more "active" in our self-defence matters in this country, but hey, I'm venturing back into political diatribe territory and this has nothing to do with the actual item!

Certainly "loud enough" to draw attention
This is loud enough to draw attention, but not so loud that it would startle or stun an attacker as some other (more expensive alarms). It's easy enough to use for its intended use, simply clip it to a bag, or a button hole on your coat with the included carabiner and if you were unfortunate to be attacked, just give it a sharp tug and the trigger insert attached to the carabiner will come out. However I think it's a poor design and may not be practical in all situations. At £8 it's pretty good value, and will work to draw attention in an emergency... So why only 4 stars? It's because there's no second loop. I'd rather attach the alarm to the bag and pull the tab out, that way, if you were being kidnapped/robbed, the attacker would need to either detach you from your bag/coat (in a kidnap scenario), which will take time... Or in a robbery situation they'd have to waste time unclipping the alarm from the bag. With the current design, only the trigger is secure and the alarm will be in your hand (not with the robber running away) or a kidnapper needs only to knock it from your hand when bundling you into the van.I actually ordered this as a "Tent Alarm" because I didn't look at the photos properly, tent alarms usually have a loop/trigger pin and carabiner at opposite ends, the carabiner clips onto the zip of your tent and you peg the loop with the trigger pin to the ground. If someone attempts to enter your tent by pulling up the zip, the trigger pin pulls out as the alarm gets pulled up by the zip, this usually stuns whoever is entering your tent as they're generally kneeling/squatting down to reach the zipper, so it's going off right in their faces... so despite the photos showing usage for "Camping" it's not a tent alarm, but I can fix this with a bit of cordage to attach the alarm to the zipper.

Stylish Personal Alarm
The Tecknet Personal Alarm is stylish, slim and lightweight and comes with a carabiner, charging cable, user manual and in a lovely pastel blue colour. To sound the alarm, remove the SOS pin (This requires a firm pull to release so should not go off by accident) which will instantly trigger the alarm at 130dB which is notably loud together with the flashing LED light which would certainly bring attention to any situation. There is a button on the reverse that can also trigger or disarm the alarm too; however, if the pin has been removed this must be reinserted in order to disarm (stop) the alarm. The same button can also control the LED light; turning it on, making it flash or to turn it off.A charging port and red led indicator light are located at the base next to each other. The LED flashes when charging and stays on when charge complete. Its compact form makes it easy to keep in a bag or pocket or clip onto a bag or attach to keys.Personal Alarms are great items to keep on your person as it creates enough noise to alert others if you are unfortunately in need of help or assistance.

Good Quality Safety Siren
I have reviewed a few of these personal safety sirens in the past, and this is probably the most premium looking so far.The principle is simple... Keep the siren clipped to the outside of your bag, and when threatened, you pull the siren body away from its loop. The siren is very loud at 130dB - almost deafening, and I wouldn't want to have it any nearer than 30cm from my ears, as it would hurt. The siren also has a flashing light when the loop is pulled off, useful to attract nearby people to your exact location in case the siren isn't enough. You can also activate the light (without the siren) by using the grey button at the back. The first push turns the light continuously on, and the second makes it flash. The third press, and it turns off again. You can also deactivate the siren by a long press of the grey button, in case you loose the loop in some sort of struggle. The whole device is chargeable using USB C, and the listing states that the siren will last for 90 minutes or 3 hours of light on a single battery charge. It feels solid, quite premium, and has a silky smooth feel. The only thing (as a male) I am not sure about is the turquoise colour, but the girls still seem to like it.Definitely recommended. They are good gifts for the girls in your life.

Increased personal safety & peace of mind - at a price.
Review for: ‘TeckNet Personal Safety Alarm for Women, 130dB Siren & Strobe Light, Rechargeable Personal Emergency Security Safe Protection Devices for for Girl Kid Elderly Student’This personal security alarm is small and very lightweight. It can easily be attached to a keyring, bag or belt using the carabiner (included), ready for whenever you go out, or when you stay in a hotel - or keep it behind your front door as a ‘panic button’ (maybe attach it to the door, wall, or a cord around the door handle) in case someone tries to enter when you open it. It could also be used in the home, e.g., if you live with someone who is maybe prone to falls and needs to summon you. I took it outdoors to test - it is loud and should scare off most attackers who obviously won’t want to be seen or draw attention to themselves, just take care not to cover the speaker when you set it off as that will substantially reduce the sound level. The alarm can be activated in two ways, by either (1) pulling out the SOS pin (the loop on one end) – push it back into place to deactivate the alarm, and (2) by pressing the alarm button (on the back) twice in quick succession and deactivated by pressing and holding down the alarm button for 4 seconds or until the sound stops. When the alarm is activated the LED white light on the front also flashes. The light can be used as a torch by pressing the button on the back of the alarm once, a second press and the light will flash, and a third press will turn it off. The alarm is rechargeable (USB cable supplied) – when the red light flashes it’s time for a recharge, when fully recharged the red light will turn off and a green light will come on. I've been carrying a similar alarm for several months and it does help me be less nervous in certain situations. But remember, even if you do carry one – be alert at all times, and don’t take unnecessary avoidable risks, better safe than sorry! The price at the time of writing is £16.99 - I think that’s too high when compared with similar products.
