Chrome Precision Base Plate for Intricate Thinlits, Multicolor

Prior to purchasing the Chrome Precision Base Plate, I owned the Original Metal (Black) Precision Base Pate for wafer thin dies. The new version is improved in one very important way. While they are both the same size (10” x 6.125”, appears the same thickness), the new Chrome Precision Plate cuts even 110# Cardstock using intricate dies cleanly, usually in only ONE pass! And what was rather shocking to me is that, even though the dies and plate pass through the die cutting machine with a lot of pressure, there are NO MARKS/IMPRESSIONS left on the surface of the Chrome Plate...even after 100’s of cuts! This Plate was delivered to me December 24, 2018...and I began using it immediately. I have used it nearly every day since (that’s 6 days shy of 6 months) and the photos in this review were taken TODAY. Now, some specifics you may not know about regarding this plate (so you can choose WHEN to use it): • It is meant to be used for intricate dies only...not with your more open dies. You may think, what’s the big deal? But read on... • Once you use this plate with a given die, you pretty much need to commit to use the plate with said die for the life of that die. Why? Because there is NO “give” in this chrome. So, when so much pressure is exerted for that clean cut, the cutting edge of your steel dies dull somewhat. That isn’t an issue for me. I mean hey...I purchased it so my intricate dies would cut through Cardstock. They NEED this plate to do that more easily. Why would I NOT use it?? • If you choose not to heed Sizzix’s warning to use only with intricate dies, your open dies, say...a frame die, will likely end up warped (bowed in the center because of the pressure). If you do this by mistake (I’m guilty), you can simply bend your thin wafer dies straight again (gently). • This plate is not intended to be used with the Magnetic Platform many of us use and love. In photo #3, you see the plate positioned on the magnetic platform, showing the 1.125” overhang the plate has so that IF you do place them together, you can easily separate them by grabbing the longer portion and twisting it on a horizontally parallel plane with the platform. Now why can’t you use it with the Magnetic Base? According to some users, doing so may shorten the life of your cutting pads (again, bowing them). Have I paired this Chrome Plate with the Magnetic Platform? Yep. Have my cutting pads bowed? Yep. Have my dies been damaged? Remains to be seen. (I simply didn’t know this piece of information when I purchased this plate, and now that I do...I thought I’d pass it along to you.) • This Plate is not compatible with the Big Shot Foldaway, or the Big Shot Plus. Just a heads up. As far as functionality, I wouldn’t even try to cut an intricate die without this plate. You absolutely NEED this plate in your stash if you have dies with many intricate cuts...Brands such as Tattered Lace, Couture Creations, etc. (Side note, if you want to cut MULTIPLE dies at the same time, spaced fairly close together, you need even more muscle than this plate in my opinion. When I’m cutting multiple intricate dies one after the other or multiple dies in one pass, I rely on my Gemini Die Cutting Machine. It cuts like butter...with EVERY die...EVERY time!) I used this as a base plate on a Big Shot to cut cardstock with metal dies. Cuts were cleaner and made weeding out the little interior pieces a breeze. Most of them popped right out!!

Love, love, love this precision cutting plate! I am a professional greeting card maker and have spent thousands on traditional and self-healing cutting plates and a variety of manual and electric machines but this is the first time I have found something that cuts all of my dies flawlessly!! It doesn't scar or warp and is absolutely amazing!! Thank you Sizzix!

I ordered this chrome precision base plate back in July, 2018. I had the older precision base plate and it helped with the intricate dies but didn't always work as well as I would have liked. I am a big fan of the very intricate dies so when I saw that this one was available I decided to try it. I have been very happy I did. In my opinion it was more than worth what I paid for it. Even though the price has gone up a bit from then I plan on buying another after the holidays just to be sure I always have a spare. I am so glad that Amazon has a pretty good selection of intricate cutting dies and accessories for my die cutting machine. I hope they continue to do so!

Nothing like it for intricate dies. I had a few dies that I really struggled to cut on my Big Shot Plus. I saw an ad for the precision plate and jumped at it. Imagine my horror when I read on the package that it should not be used with the Big Hot Plus. In any case I decided to try it starting with a minimum sandwich and bit by bit building. Well with some minor adjustments this works fine. Dies that I was getting ready to give away have now been given new life. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the fact that it is not intended for the Big Shot Plus - it should be with a few rules for use. If you have problems with intricate dies this could be the solution for you!! Be careful if you have a Plus though - I got it to work for me, but my machine is way past any warranty. Use at your own risk.

This extra plate is a definite must have when using the super thin dies. It is of course the perfect size for sizzix machines. It holds up super well to repeated use. Super simple to use just add it to your sandwich of plates.

This is truly an amazing tool for card makers who love die cutting. It cuts intricate dies with amazing precision and ease. And, the best part?…there are no marls left behind! Super happy with this addition to my die cutting plates. Highly recommend!

La llevo usando muchísimo tiempo y va genial, siempre la uso, ya no la cambio. Los troquelados con mucha filigrana los corta super bien y troqueles que a veces fallan al cortar en alguna zona, con esta placa no falla. No sé deforma. Muy buenas compra estoy encantada

I use it all the time with my Sizzix Bigshot and love it! Made well, has weight to it and doesn’t mark or warp. I bought a second one and I am going to try it as my cutting mat on top chrome side down. Cutting plates don’t last very long because of warping.

This plate is good quality and would purchase again if needed.
