Street Scene: Vocal Score

Street Scene is Kurt Weill's answer to Italian verismo, with a clear nod to I Pagliacci. While Elmer Rice's libretto seems dated, Weill's buoyant score is full of surprises. My spiral-bound rehearsal copy of the piano-vocal score is a bit dog-eared from its previous owner (a tenor who took copious notes from presumably a college production) but fits comfortably on the piano. This edition helpfully has Weill's full piano score and Rice's libretto.

I have a lot of scores of different musicals. This is the first I've seen that has the script included with the songs. What a great bonus. Usually I'd have to pay extra for the script. The songs are great.

Street Scene is a wonderful show! Kurt Weill wrote a fantastic score to one of Elmer Rice's most famous works! There is some wonderful music in this score for each voice type: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass. Most of the repertoire is in more of an operatic style but some of the music is more similar to musical theater.

Straight forward, but I wish it listed the characters with the songs in the table of contents.

This is a great piano / vocal score. It is an over sized score but the print is very clear and I love it!
