Perfect amount of light
I spent ages looking for the right product to go on the landing at the top of my stairs. Our house is pitch black at night so I wanted something that came on when it sensed movement but to only do this when the ambient light was low enough. These lights have three settings; constantly on, on from dusk to dawn and (the one we use), motion detecting. As other reviews suggest, the motion sensor ark is perfect if you are approaching the sensor but not so hot when you are passing it. This is not a problem for us as we have one on the landing and one in the end bedroom so there is always ample light for us but something to keep in mind. The pack contains 2 which is really handy too. The most important thing for me was that the light was not too bright and I am happy to say that these are perfect. The light level is so low that would never use as a light to read (you would need to get up really close) but is bright enough to light your way. The bulb gives out a low level orange light similar to the colour of a street light so it will never blind you as you totter off to the loo in the dead of night. Ideal and would buy again!

dim, but cheap to run
Yes, this plug-in motion-controlled lamp IS dim (you'll need 3 or 4 to sufficiently light a room ) but since I had several installed I couldn't do without. And if they're dim they're really cheap to run, right? The lamp detects nightfall and will also activate in poor light conditions. There are three settings on the lamp: Constant illumination day & night, constant illumination at night (good for security), motion-activated illumination during night/ poor light. What I like, and the main reason I bought it, is it will remain illuminated longer than most other makes (two mins), allowing you to do what you need to do without worrying about being plunged into darkness if you don't keep moving.I have a basement kitchen (which after nightfall I don't return to much) and instead of putting the main lights on, I rely on these to light my way should I just need to visit the fridge or put something away.Only criticism... the sensor won't detect movement if you approach from a higher or lower level to it (for example on the stairs).

Still good after 3 years!
I have recently installed one of these lights on the landing, near to the top of the stairs, and we really like it. Other reviewers seem to want more light output, but when we install the other one in our bedroom, it tends to light the room up too much when the movement sensor is triggered during a night time trip to the bathroom. This causes disturbance to the 'sleeping partner', which is not desirable. Have any of the other purchasers blanked off part of the lens to reduce light output? and is it possible to remove the lens cover to make a good job of blanking part of it off? This problem aside, the lights are excellent value and seem very well made - if they give us long service we will be even more pleased!December 2016 update - The minor problem with brightness Is cured! I painted the whole of the round lens with black enamel, leaving just a sliver of lens clear across the bottom. Now, when the light comes on in the night, it clearly lights up the floor area to guide us to the bathroom without disturbance to the other sleeper - simple but effective!Update August 2020. - 3 years on, and both of our lights are working well. I am ordering two more today! Looking at the other listings on Amazon, it would seem that the other types Offered have shorter ‘on’ time so they would be less useful for us!

Perfect as night lights, but don't expect them to be bright!
I am pleased with these. I have one at each end of my hall, so they automatically light up if anyone gets up during the night. No setting up required - just plug them in and they are ready to go. I have them on the "motion sensor" setting, so they automatically know when to start working, depending on the light levels.BE WARNED: they are very dim. They provide JUST enough light to make your way through the hall in the dark, and I do mean 'just enough', these are very soft, muted, dim lights - probably providing the same amount of illumination as one of those dinky little candles on a birthday cake.I'm happy with them, because they are exactly what I wanted, but if you want to read, sew, provide soft light for a dinner party, or even if your eyes aren't as good as they used to be with night vision, these are NOT the lights for you - they really are very dim night lights.

I find these to be very useful to light the landings in the house at night
I find these to be very useful to light the landings in the house at night. It means that young or old, guest or household member can get to the toilet in the middle of the night safely without needing to turn on all the lights. It gives enough glow to light the way but not so much that it blinds you. I've now placed one at the bottom of the stairs too incase people want to go to the kitchen safely without turning on all the lights. Great that it comes as a pack of two

Very nice
I also bought '8 LED Light Lamp PIR Auto Sensor Motion Detector Wireless', To compare the 2 lights, the 'Masterplug' has 2 lights in the box. The PIR has 1. The masterplug goes into the mains. Its light is orange and quite dim, I guess about moonlight/ 6 lumens/candles and the PIR is white and much brighter, like a bike light, maybe 40 lumens: you don't want to look directly at it.The masterplug is perfect for use in the toilet at nighttime. Its light is faint orange so it doesn't wake you up but it's enough to see by. You don't have to look for a torch because it comes on automatically. The PIR would be too bright and white for this; it would wake you up.The PIR is perfect for our dark stairs and landing. It comes on in daylight so you can see where you are putting your feet. The masterplug would be too dim for this. The PIR switches off after a minute or 2 so you don't have the light accidentally switched on all day.
