Coastal Cruising Made Easy

Pretty good training book. The test correlated with the reading, quiz, and objectives. ASA is for profit. US Sailing is non-profit and seems to have a reputation for higher standards amongst instructors. RYA seems to have even higher standards than either ASA or USS, but is not offered for in most areas U.S. citizens venture [for profit]. Was definitely wise to have an instructor teach practical applications of material.

The ASA manual for its ASA 103 sailing course. As with all ASA books, packed with relavant information. Tip for those new to sailing who would like to learn more about the basics, cruising, and possibly live- aboard....I would buy the three ASA books before any other. Sailing Made Easy for basic sailing (ASA Keelboard 101 manual), Coastal Cruising Made Easy for basic cruising instruction and information (ASA 103 manual), and Bareboat Cruising Made Easy for more advanced cruising (ASA 104 manual). Wait to purchase all of the other sailing books out there until you read these.

A lot of great useful information for a novice sailer

The organization of the information in the book is well organized and the writing is excellent with easy to understand descriptions of sailing related information. Chapter Quiz Reviews are very helpful to ensure important concepts are understood. The diagrams are extremely well illustrated and labeled. The book serves as a great reference.

Very informative book

I got Sailing Made Easy as a part of an ASA101 course, and I liked the way it was written. Coastal Cruising Made Easy picks up where that book left off, and is written in a very similar style. It's packed with information, pictures diagrams but presents everything in a concise manner that's quick to read and easy to digest.

Solid straight forward sailing and good graphics make this a very good basic sailing book. I teach basic sailing and books that try to get every nuance and detail in are not good for the beginner. This book reduces the basics to simple principles!
