Large knife. Nicely buffed out finish, but not sharp on arrival
This is a good quality knife. For the knife I received, the blade did not arrive sharp. It required lots of sharpening. I've read reports from other reviews that their knives arrived sharp. This particular one wasn't.The chrome version is very nice and highly buffed out. That's a great first impression!I also noticed something that may or may not be applicable for you; the weight of the chrome finish is a tad lighter than the all dark version. It's negligible, but something I noticed and wanted to point out.I do like the finger groove so that making more precise cuts are easier than without it. It is still a very large knife and precission probably isn't its best feature. But as the saying goes, "it will cut."The sheath isn't very remarkable but it does the job.

KNIFE REPRESENTS EXCELLENT DESIGN AND CRAFTMANSHIP - SHEATH FAR DISTANCE FROM EXCELLENCE
The knife was adequately packaged and arrived on time.Upon opening the box I noted that it could be used in the manner of a gift presentation. However, I found it somewhat odd that the knife was separate from the sheath AND not in the sheath or scabbard as supplied. Both wore a plastic sleeve. I thought better to protect the near mirror finish on my blade. I wish that I had ordered black, but it is possible it was not available for a review.Let us not mince words about what this knife can be used for. We always see that stuff about, hunting, camping, hiking, etc, to keep it to the point this knife is fully designed as a deadly weapon, for personal defense.Yes, you could use it to prepare a fish for fry, and you could do all those things that require the performance of a good strong blade. There is the part that will turn frontiersman and survivalist folks to the video camera producing videos that will show that it can whittle sticks, chop at small saplings and end their life, and that is all fine...to show that it can take a little abuse to the edge of the rugged D2 Steel blade edge. All well and good. But, when I withdrew the knife from the clear sleeve I felt that it was indeed a knife of warfare. The spine of the knife is actually quite striking because it bears a partially segmented graduation to the sharp point and from there the belly of the knife makes a rounded sweep to the edge. The slicing ability of the knife is the dominant feature of the edge. You wont shave with it but it is not designed for shaving, the precise bevel of the superbly sharp edge is set for slicing and cutting.I then looked at the flat of the blade and observed that the fuller grove, of which there are one on each side, was about one and 7/8 inches in length.A fuller adds strength to the blade while subtracting unwanted weight. This fuller also is important in affecting the balance of the knife which I found to be perfect in my estimation. I tested it, dead on.The blade itself is much narrower than a hunting or Bowie style blade. This knife is designed to turn easily a forty five degree or a full one eighty with ease...that is augmented by the serviceable Jimping that are very thumb accessible. This will give you much greater blade control in turning to make cuts. The knife is finely finished and shows very excellent assembly. The handle is excellent and provides a good firm grip.I noticed that it is set with screws from both sides. That is a notable feature. Also the one guard or quillon is at topside. It is in that quillon that you will find a drilled hole. It is at a point that we could think of as near to the bolster as possible. That hole for me was a handy test of the exact balance point of the knife. I placed a small round pin in the hole and was very pleased to see that the knife had perfect balance. Wow, what a blade! My knife is well marked by the makers insignia and name. I wonder if he was the one that was also expert in cryptography? It kind of figures that it may be he.The blade is well polished, and I can easily assume that if you order the blued or darker blade it will reflect the same excellent workmanship in detail. The edge is honed to perfection for accomplishing the task that it was designed for.Now we come to the sheath. It leaves much to be desired which includes the ability to do its job.The blade edge is prevented from cutting fiber fabric of the sheath with a solid inner housing. However, the knife fits so loosely that it will if you are jogging or moving rapidly, be heard to rattle against the sides of the scabbard. Now we come to the snap button fasteners. One set embraces the forward part of the handle near the quillon the iter at or near the butt. The butt end 'snap' action is easy to accomplish but the snap button pair near the guard will break your thumb, cause joint discomfort or so I experienced in my futile attempts to get the buttons to snap together.I even went so far as to apply forcefulk stretching on the straps but to no avail. This type of material is tough and resistant to any stretching. So the bottom line on the sheath is this. Either the wrong one was placed in my pack or it is just a hopeful make do. Whatever the case it is a shameful waste and a sore discredit to the excellence of this fine blade.I noted that the sheath can be used in scout carry and that is how I intend to carry my new best friend.I will seek a holster that fits with straps that will snap, unless the seller can find something that is the exact size with workable straps, longer ones that will snap when wrapped round t he handle.Since I did not see any particular big deal mention of the sheath, I am not going to deduct a point. I should though because I expected to get a sheath with it and one that would work and serve me. I am a fairly big guy, so I can pack this almost eight inch blade in the scout carry mode. There are certain obvious advantages to scout carry not the least of those is concealment. You should not conceal unless you have a concealed weapons permit. That is the case in most localities and a very good idea to make an application for one.I included a quick shot of the knife with some annotations so novices can understand what I am writing about.I am giving this Knife a top grade Rating of Five GIANT stars for value, design, versatility, and craftsmanship. It is my opinion that If you are an EDC person, or collect, this is an item that you should not pass up.My only disappointment was that I did not get one with the darkened blade.Note that a bright shiny blade may look nice for display, but for military and other tactical operations theblued steel model is the best and authentic.

A High-Quality Fixed Blade
I'm impressed with the HOKC Atlant-3 hunting knife; it's quickly become a favorite in my collection. Right out of the box, the heft is apparent, and long blade catches your eye. A quick test confirmed it arrived very sharp, ready for action. The quality of the AUS8 stainless steel with its great finish feels substantial and durable, exactly what I look for in a serious outdoor knife, and worth the cost. What truly stands out, though, is the perfect balance of this knife; it feels incredibly natural and controlled in hand, making it a great wield for various tasks. The TPR handle provides an excellent, secure grip, even when wet, and the advanced guard gives me confidence in various grips. While the sheath itself is well-made and robust, I did find one minor flaw: the lower snap button fastener near the base of the knife handle is quite small and difficult to close. It's a minor inconvenience on an otherwise stellar product. Despite that small detail, this knife's overall quality, balance, and sharpness make it an exceptional tool for anything from camping to more tactical uses.

Hefty knife for My Emergency Go Bag
Atlant-3 | 606-101821 | Hunting & Tactical Knife by HOKC - D2 Stainless Steel Blade, TPR Handle, Glass Breaker, Designed by Russian Master Aleksander Biryukov....... ...... .......... ...... ....... ........ .......... ....... .......... ...........This is a very large, hefty knife that looks like it means business. I've only ever had kitchen and pocket knives. This one is a league unto itself. It's got a holder that it fits into to keep it from slashing up everything, including hands. It only fits in the holder in one direction. If you face it the other way, it goes in, but the keeper snaps won't snap. It's easy to get in and out of the holster. It appears sharp but not razor sharp. I tested it on paper. It does not have a full tang, which is something I generally look for in my better kitchen knives. It's got some cord wrapped up at the bottom of the holster in case you need some para cord for tying something up. I didn't untie the cord so I can't speak to its length or strength.I plan on putting it into my "go bag," which is a backpack full of essentials that lives in my car, in case of emergencies. This knife seems like it will pretty much slash, cut or shave anything I might need it for. My husband was pretty surprised when he saw this big ole knife on the table, and he kidded me about fighting my way out of danger, just in case. We live a pretty low-key life and this is knife is definitely a weapon.

Big Sharp Knife
If I go hiking or camping, this knife might come in handy. It feels really solid and well made. I used it to cut a steak, and it was like cutting butter. I don't know its sharpness cutting harder stuff. The knife seemed used or a bit dirty when I got it, so it was better when I washed it with some soap. And I'm pretty sure this knife is made in China, even though there is no mention of where it is made on the actual knife.
