Humorous anecdote (small spoiler)...
This isn't so much of an actual review than it is a humorous anecdote centered around this film. This is a movie my family would rent fairly often from Blockbuster (I feel so old after writing that). I don't remember how old I was when I first watched it, but my older brother did not take to the jelly fish scene very well. To this day he is terrified of them. Years and years later we were at the beach. Dad rented one of those mini sail boat things and we went out a ways. My brother and I (I was in high school still he may have graduated at this point) jumped off and swam around a bit (with life vests). We saw a jelly fish maybe 30 feet away. It wasn't getting any closer, nor was it between us and the boat, but he totally flipped. Without warning (and in the blink of an eye), he had positioned his feet on the straps of my life jacket (along my ribs/just above my hips) and STOOD UP on me. I don't have any idea how he kept his balance because I was thrashing all around (the level of the water being mid-forehead on me). And while I was choking on sea water and gasping for air the top of my head followed by my face and shoulders grew very warm. And all of a sudden the sea water I was choking on put on a strange taste I later realized was urine... He ended up jumping off me and I am pretty sure ran across the water like those lizards do back to the boat. Once I caught my breath I looked and the jelly fish had moved (sideways, not towards me) about 6 feet.Anyways, I guess if there is a moral to this story it is to not let little kids watch this movie and if you do... don't take them to the beach (ever again). If the moral of the story doesn't apply to you then I hope you got a little chuckle from my misfortune.(I do actually really love this movie despite it being the source of my head getting peed on and me nearly drowning in salty pee water... 5/5)

Enigmatic
This movie was suspenseful and exciting! It’s the type of movie that makes you stop and think. I think the ending could have been better but that’s just my opinion.Worth watching!

Thrilling but Unveiled a bit Slow
Sphere" is a sci-fi thriller into the depths of the ocean and the human psyche. Directed by Barry Levinson and based on Michael Crichton's novel, the film boasts an impressive cast including Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone, and Samuel L. Jackson. The story follows a team of scientists who discover a mysterious spacecraft at the bottom of the ocean, leading to the exploration of a massive, enigmatic sphere within. As they uncover the sphere's secrets, they grapple with their own fears and desires, confronting psychological challenges that blur the lines between reality and imagination.

An interesting movie from an interested viewer
**take this in mind before viewing***most of the reviews written are biased and can't be taken seriously. Does no one want to just take a movie by face value anymore?Everyone has commentary on its content, how it was done, the ending, the action and fx during the crucial points. This is how you need to watch this movie:Go into it as you would view things when you are a child!! Don't expect anything except to have a good story told. Its in this way that you get a really great story from the movie.I feel that when people say the ending is crap, well, they have a skewed sense of things. Thats basically been the same ending for the past 70 yrs from the original of the original books. Does everyone need a "kick in the face" type of ending. BAD GUY LOSES, GOOD GUY WINS. YESSSS!!!!!!!I find it hilarious that people can't stand it if no one wins or the good guy dies or EVERYONE dies or if there is just the mystery left.Does anything in life end so definitively??? the answer is mostly no, so in that case, why would movies always have to end with a definite conclusion!?Just accept that the stars do a GREAT job interacting, don't be so harsh and judge the movie off of what seems to an INCREDIBLY narrow-minded perspective of action/sci-fi/fiction movies. When you open up your imagination, stop caring about fx and needing an evil vs. good super ending of battle to the death with a definitive ending, thats when you realize this is an amazing movie.it is a mystery movie, plain and simple, and if you can't handle mysteries, this is not a movie for you.

You went in the sphere didn't you?!
An all star cast ensemble in this boring movie about a mysterious golden sphere that reflects what it wants to, found inside an American space ship in about 1000 ft of water. That's about the best part of the film. From the moment they enter the spaceship, things go sideways: floating eggs raining down, beasts no one sees, raging fires, jelly fish and Sharon Stone screeching, Dustin Hoffman bumbling around like a geriatric with his underwear wrapped around his ankles, and the only cool cat, Samuel L. Jackson cool and collected but completely out of it. The viewer can see he checked out almost at the beginning of the film (I should have checked out with him). This film is like an M. Night Shyamalan film, in its misdirection, use of music to build atmosphere but the dead people don't know they are dead, and stumble through the film lost and confused. Did you go in the sphere? Who knows and who really cares, let's face it. Chriton wrote a lot of novels which were made into films, this one should have been left as a novel. Rent Congo, rent The 13th Warrior, rent Disclosure, rent Andromeda Strain but leave this one alone. It's wooden and silly and not well fleshed out.
