Little Comic Shop of Horrors (Give Yourself Goosebumps #17)

One of the Best in the Series
My version has the extra shiny cover which does nothing to enhance the book itself but looks fairly neat. Behind the shiny cover is one of the best books in the Give Yourself Goosebumps series. This story's 20 endings are tighter and more thematic than some of the randomness that plagues other books in the series--although they are all fun if you're not overly concerned about logic.R.L. Stine was the best selling author of a generation for a reader. His short prose is well executed. It is on a young reading level without "talking down" to the reader. For an experienced reader this becomes a fast read but still enjoyable. He is great with details, only providing the ones that matter. This book is more adventure than horror, but that is fun and suspenseful. The book is interactive fiction, like Choose Your Own Adventure, Castles of Imagination, Fighting Fantasy or so many other classic series. Interactive Fiction, sometimes called gamebooks, lets the reader choose the path. This book is purely choice base. It does not need dice or other outside concerns. The branching plot is interesting and thematically holds together. It is fun to re-read as the story changes. Stine wrote lots of these in the Give Yourself Goosebumps line, plus he wrote interactive fiction in other series before Goosebumps became a cultural phenomenon. This is a good place to start if you have not read a Stine Interactive Fiction book before.

Quality much worse than described by seller.
The condition of this used book was not described accurately. It was listed as “good” which is described as minor shelf wear and minor marking inside. This book barely qualified for the lower level descriptor “acceptable” There was much more damage than minor shelf wear. Chunks of the cover (both front and back) were actually missing. This book is being returned for misrepresentation by the seller (Jensen Books).

Offbeat adventure
I don't have any nostalgic memories for this one. It was alright, but I think I would have found it more interesting when I was younger, seeing as how I was into comics and all that. The comics storyline was actually upstaged, I thought by the storyline where you join a (literally) underground band of kids in a maze filled with monstrous creatures. The other plotline, you turn into different superheroes and fight different supervillians. Not really mind-blowing stuff, but decent. I'd recommend.

You love comic books. One day, on a quiet town you notice Milo's Comic book shop. When you go upstairs, you become a superhero but you have to defeat monsters. When you go to the dungeon, you have to battle MILO THE MUTANT!. This is your choice. You decide which adventure to choose!
