This book is EXCELLENT!!!!It illustrates ORIGINAL - OLD SCHOOL TRADE SKILLS for the VERY SERIOUS and DEDICATED craft worker.An "earlier review" mentioned the fashions are out of style and out dated. DA-A . . . Would an old Wood Wright manual be out of style and out dated because it has no contemporary designs? Oh WOW THINK.This book informs folks of the CORRECT SKILL needed to complete your projects. Chapter 5 surprised me with TECHNIQUES on how to disassemble and restyle original jackets, coats, and stoles / garments - to custom fit you or me.Now, I am truly able construct my own high up scale garments (CORRECTLY) in Leather, Suede, and Fur. Beit, this is also great for the FAUX skins as well (I suppose). Any way, I will certainly give it a serious effort.Creativity and appreciation for the REAL ART of organic skins is a must. It is NOT to teach you fashion design.All around crafter.

Back in the day almost every home had a sewing machine and someone at least competent at using it, and this older book assumes the reader has a basic knowledge of terms and techniques. Although the fashions are hopelessly 40's and 50's the approach is professional. Construction details such as seams, button holes and especially zippers in leather represent the high-end of the trade, both then and now, many of which few people still know how to do, at least anyone you can reach out to. Something, somewhere in this book will elevate your work to a higher level, if that is your goal.

This little book is pretty dated when it comes to the fashions shown, but it has valuable and very hard to find information on sewing leather and fur garments. The businesses in the sources section are mostly out of business or have no websites, so that part of the book is not very helpful.There are, however full. detailed step-by-step instructions for making fur scarves, something I was specifically interested in. Also includes instructions on recycling older fur garments. All in all well worth the money, since standard sewing books have few, if any instructions for sewing these types of projects.If you want to work with fur, you need this book.

Yes, they all write about the history of leather in clothing but this one gives the real how to do's. I gave it 4 stars only because it should have been updated long ago but now the writers are deceased. But it is still fun to look at the old fashioned photos and imagine the writers working in their field.

I have been a seamstress for 30 years but have run away from sewing fur. I read the reviews and decided to give this book a try. After reading it front to back I am excited to start my first project. The styles are outdated, that doesn’t matter as the content is timeless!

I was anxious to recieve the book becasuse I was going to start a project with a recycled mink coat I had purchased. When it did arrive, I was immediately put off by the lack of detailed pictures and steps provided to execute the listed projects. I found the instructions for the projects somewhat vague and realized that a lot of revision was needed in order for anyone to be able to follow what was going on. I must say that if one does not intend to actually begin a project or make a fur garment, the book itself is an interesting read and a great reference. Another review had said that if updated the book would be a great text for students, and I would have to agree.

Firstly, this book has great information. I recycle thrift store fur finds and this book tells you everything you need to know. I never knew how much I needed this book until I read it and put to the knowledge to use.The writer is very knowledgeable and I'm thankful to her for sharing.
