Historical drama based on the final confession of one of the main architects of the Nazi holocaust, prior to his execution in Israel in 1962. After being abducted by Israeli secret service agents in Argentina in 1960, where he had fled after WWII, Adolf Eichmann (Thomas Kretschmann), is brought back to Israel to stand trial for crimes against humanity. A young Israeli Police officer, Captain Avner Less (Troy Garity), is handed the responsibility of interrogating the former S.S. Lieutenant Colonel, a task which develops into a cat-and-mouse battle of wills, starkly contrasting their opposing ideologies.

An important historical drama
I found this film to be engrossing but at times a little tough to sit through. The seven month interogation of newly a captured Adolf Eichmann is compacted here in 1 hour 40 minutes.Eichmann was one of the greatest criminals that history has ever known. He was responsible for the death of six million Jews. This is a good film, but it that falls short of its potential due to its subject matter.

**Eichmann**
Of course i had high hopes for the movie and i wasnt disapointed.. i must admit that i thought this is a movie of Eichmann and his days serving the 3rd reich but no.. it was about his capture and interrogation.. The film kept me awake and i was stunned how good actors where in it.. i felt in me those feelings what israeli's felt towards Eichmann and those feelings what Eichmann told about himself and his life.. two very different worlds and they didnt understand each other even in the end.. Eichmann was missing his children very much and israeli interrogater replied with anger: "but what about those thousands of children who you send to death by your signature?" Eichmann just answered: "but those were jews" Good movie.

Love the focus
Lots of emotion in this, filmed well in (i think it is called Sepia)to give the retro feel I love that it focused Avner and his struggles. The only 2 little negatives i have ,1 wish it had subtitlesfor the protests and hated the last scene he didnt deserve that

Captures a very important piece of modern European and Israeli history
It's a captivating and intelligent take on Adolf Eichmann's abduction from Argentina and consecutive interrogation before being sentenced to death. The creators capture the atmosphere, the sense of superiority of the German officialdom, the collusion of the Jewish authorities, the horror during the war, as well as the self confidence and sense of purpose of the young Jewish state. The film ends with an epilogue about humanity and democracy reminding the viewer that history is still alive.

Adolf Eichmann
I have to admit I was disappointed with this portrayal of Adolf Eichmann. The acting was good, but having just watched the film ' Operation Daybreak' for the fourth time, I wanted to find out more about the life of this German, his character, and rise to power. I did not feel the this film covered the detail of his life in the format I would have been more interested in. This was more to do with his interrogation and subsequent trial when he was eventually captured. I thought he was actually killed in Prague??

Good acting, but...
The movie might have been better were some time devoted to Eichmann's circuitous escape from Europe and his progress through Argentina, etc. Kretchmann's performance is always good and the supporting cast entirely adequate. Shooting the tale in German/Hebrew with subtitles would have added more realism. The DVD itself certainly could have benefitted from supplementary material, i.e. snippets from the actual trial of Eichmann in Jerusalem.

Frightening
Whilst I agree with some of the criticism, you have to remember the audience this film was targeted towards. I found it fascinating on a human level: First to see the dichotomy between what Jewish people wanted from his arrest and wanting to move on, and from Eichman himself who just missed his children but wouldn't see the irony that his own 6 year old would become fatherless because of him. Thomas Kretschman portrays him superbly as a cold, controlling man. Just a man doing his duty.
