My Book of the Year
Valence is the best book in the Confluence series by a county mile, and it was also the best book I read this year. In Valence, we're back with Jane and the crew after a brief sojourn with Darcy in the last book, and while the break did the story some good, I was pleased to be back with the main story. This book is split into two parallel stories. One focuses on Jane and the crew as they try to warn the universe about Kai'Memna and his plot while at the same time gathering support and a plan to protect an exposed Earth. The second story focuses on Zara, a young woman back on Earth, and the repercussions of Jane's announcement from the end of book 1. This split was masterfully done and helped to build the tension, as you know how ill-prepared Earth is for what is coming. The ending was surprising and satisfying, and I can't wait to finish the series. I hope the author is fit and well enough to release the final book by the time I get there, as I'm desperate to see how the story ends.

Bringing everyone together. Round two next book?
In this book we return to Jane as the main PoV - the hero of the first two books. However we also get an appearance from the third book's protagonist, and a third plotline from goings on back on Earth - led by Zura an intelligent young teenager. I don't know if there is going to be a fifth book after this. Things are brought to a suitable stopping point, but with some unsubtle hints that another big battle is possible in the future. This is a well written book, and a decent series as a whole. My only niggle is that the third book feels a little 'tacked-on'. I wonder if it would have been better to have that book as separate from the series as a 'in the same universe' book.

One of the best SF books I've read.
What a wonderful saga Mrs Wells has created. Engrossing characters without the usual gastly American teenagers so common in books of this nature. Starting with Book 1 I challenge any reader not to buy the other three. Lots of action and plenty of surprises will keep you spellbound.

Five star story
Five Stars for another great story in the Confluence sequence. An exciting narrative, expanding on the characters from the previous books & introducing a galaxy of new ones.

This turning into an epic saga. I hope it continues for a long time.
I wasn't sure at first, but this series keeps getting better and better. The characters are great and the intertwined story's are just great.

less talk more battles
whilst still enjoyable this book took a whole lot of time and energy discussing the meeting of new species and their political manoeuvrings but when it came down to the cut a thrust of battle it was all over in a jiffy! oh well on to book 5.

Simply WOW!
Wow!! Edge of my seat the whole time. This series of books are phenomenal. A strong female lead to be proud if and amazing storyline ( don't want to give anything away!). Multiple levels all tied in perfectly. I can't wait to read the rest. This one actually brought me to tears at the end, I can honestly say a book has never done that to me before!

More please!!! :D
Oh my god this is so good!! This is the one author on Amazon who I keep checking on for her next books. I love this series - well-drawn characters, excellent pacing the whole way through (i.e., hard to put down), twists you don't expect, solid believability, *wildly* rich universe of many races and cultures, history, etc etc etc. Threaded throughout, she knows how to set up a mystery and keep hinting at it without suddenly unveiling everything. She even manages to not be derivative of any other scifi "universe" - it's not like Star Trek, Star Wars, the Ringworld series - different from them all, yet just as rich if not moreso. I don't know how she pulls it off, but it's one of the best series I've read in 15 years. The 3rd book was delightful btw - what a clever change in pace from the main story. Please please please more more more :) It'd be really nice if she George R. R. Martin'ed this and just kept going. There's so much to uncover.PS - After seeing Arrival (movie), I suddenly can't think of Jane without seeing Amy Adams (hahaha).

The book I downloaded was apparently not the final version and I was almost half finished before I was informed. I was finding the story very confusing so when i got the email and downloaded the correct version i started reading again from the beginning - much better. It would be good if the author would summarize the story thus far as I and others I am sure have read many books since her last in the series and the characters get tangled with other stories in my mind. However, all figured out in the end. Keep them coming. Thank you!

And the adventures continue
Great fourth book in the series. Jennifer's story telling does not disappoint. Looking forward to the next book in this series!

Fascinating
From the very first volume, this series has intrigued me. This latest book is of the same high caliber. The superficial action is well told - alien invasion and how the action unfolds. The deeper premises are fascinating. How do we deal with alien - foreign? - customs and appearances? Linguistic questions and learning a new „Lingua franca „. Exploring emotions and opening minds. Written from a female perspective this makes a wonderful exploration of very human questions. I cannot wait for a future instalment. Please?

Nice series except for...
Enjoyable space opera except for the romance bits. A's moody jealousy and adolescent sulking got on my nerves.Though it looks as if the author may not finish the 5th book to complete the series because of health problems.
