New Balance is dedicated to helping athletes achieve their goals. It's been their mission for more than a century to focus on research and development. It's why they don't design products to fit an image. They design them to fit. New Balance is driven to make the finest shoes for the same reason athletes lace them up: to achieve the very best. Want a walking shoe that's easy to put on and take off? Then this MW577 shoe is for you. The leather upper is slightly perforated for breathability, and ABZORB technology in the heel protects from shocks as you traverse your daily route.

Soles falling off after two months of wear.
These hook/loop New Balance shoes were not as comfortable as my New Balance laceups so I continued to use the laceups until they wore out about two months ago. I then began to use the hook/loop shoes until I recently noticed moisture from early morning dew was soaking my feet. Upon inspecting the shoes I discovered both soles were separating from the shoe. Due to the delay in noticing this flaw I have passed the allowed time for returning the shoes but thought I would let others know about this potential problem. In addition to the separation problem I also thought the straps were a little too short for comfort but this has already been posted in other reviews.

Good shoe but made for low-arch feet
Velcro straps MUCH too short.I knew this from other comments. I bought very over-size to compensate: normally 9EE is fine, I got 10EEEE.These must be designed for people with low flat feet. Or to look good in the store (without feet in them).See picture. On my not-so-fat foot, extra-size shoe, I can only get a half-inch of Velcro "grabbed" or the pressure over my arch will cause tingle pain to my toes. The half-inch is NOT sufficient "grab"; the strap gets loose several times a day. The other (idle) 1.5" will attract dust and dog-hair (as I know from other Velcro-ed shoes).Support wise, they are some better than 20-buck shoes from the bargain store, but I'm not sure they are all that much better. You can see in the picture that the tongue leather gets a funny wrinkle. Also they squeak, or "squigge", more than any other casual shoe I've worn in years.---EDIT, 3 months later... a seam in the toe is failing. Walking in dewy grass wets my foot. Yes, this is near 90 days of every-day wear, but I have back/leg pain and have not walked much. I expect this life from $20 bargain-store shoes, but for this brand and price I had hoped for more.Click my name (left) and look at my comments on the similar Reebok mens black velcro walker. So far it it fits better, is equally comfortable, and a few bucks lower price.

Are these Leather of Plastic?
I have been wearing New Balance shoes for decades. These were supposed to be size 9.5 and extra wide size 2E. I've worn New Balance Hook/Loop shoes before and they were comfortable and well-made.Although these were marked as 9.5 and 2E wide, there is no way they were 9.5 = I COULD NOT GET THEM ON MY FEET!Not only were they too small, the material and workmanship was very, very poor quality. I'm not every sure the material was leather - more like plastic. I am shocked that New Balance would put their name on these shoddy, low quality shoes.I have since reordered an expensive ($110) New Balance hook/loop shoes and I hope the quality of these shoes is up to the usual New Balance standard of quality.

Not Comfortable At All—No Cushion
These shoes are a big disappointment. I wanted a shoe to put on quickly and easily. Thet's OK though the straps are too short as others have said. I wanted comfort on my frequent dog walks. These shoes fail on that score as they have poor cushioning and the heel produced a blister after 5 minutes. It's annoying to pay $60 for a shoe worth $20 and then have to add a $20 insole to make them useable. Size is another issue. I ordered my size, 12D. They fit but a bit small. Too loose in the back causing a blister. Too tight up front killing the comfort. They may break in but judging by the other reviews, they will probably fall apart before becoming the quest after soft sneaker of my dreams.UPDATE: Just trying them on they were so bad I decided to return them.I can't recommend these shoes.

What is the point of sizes if they don't mean anything?
I have worn the NB MX608 through several versions for many years. I found this was a shoe that fit me and was comfortable. I have a wide foot and I have gout. So when I find something that works, I stick with it. I found the shoe about 5 years ago shopping on vacation and was delighted with it. So when I got back home (we don't have the extensive footwear stores here - Payless, Wal*mart - and various poorly stocked sporting goods or department stores. Forget finding a specific style in multiple widths.) I looked it up on Amazon. Hallelujah they had it! I have replaced this shoe many times through Amazon without incident. This time, they had gone to the (my last order was a v3) v4. When I first looked it up, I found the black/black listing and they didn't have 12 4E, or hardly any other size (I think there were only 3 or 4 sizes listed) so I figured they might be phasing it out. So I searched for "black leather New Balance" size 12 width 4E and this was one of the options I found. I thought the velco straps might be handy (I had previously used the Wally World cheapo shoes with the velcro straps and although they are nothing great, the wide ones would get me by in a pinch). I ordered these. I received them. I tried one on. It is tiny. I figured they pulled the wrong size, so I looked on the box. Says 12 4E. Ok maybe the factory messed up and put the wrong shoe in the box. I looked on the label. It says 12 4E. I tried it on again - maybe the bottom had folded or something. Nope tighter than most D shoes. So I got out a caliper and measured the shoes to see if it was just my imagination. Now I know leather shoes stretch over time, but their soles don't. I measured the maximum width of the sole where the leather joins it. On the MX608 it was 4.685" on the MW577 it was 4.420". That is a difference of 0.265" - over a quarter inch. (For a real idea of how much of a difference this is, take a pair of shoes that fits comfortably and put 4 quarters side by side alongside your foot.) Measuring the sole itself (this is more error prone since some soles taper out more than others but on these two shoes, they look pretty close) I measured 4.935" on the MX608 and 4.600" on the MW577. That is a difference of 0.335". I realize that there is no exact size descriptions in the shoe industry, but I would expect that shoes of a similar style from the same manufacturer would not be off my this much. The good news - Amazon is awesome and they will take them back. I found another listing for the MX608V4 in Black that has the 4E size and ordered it. I don't expect any problems as I went from the original to the V2 to the V3 with no change in fit so I expect the V4 to be fine.
