Dani PettreySilenced: An Adventurous Action Suspense Thriller Detective Romance (Alaskan Courage)

Another great Dani Pettrey book. Love, love, love the McKenna family!
As with all previous Alaskan Courage books, I LOVED this book. We've watched Jake and Kayden fall in love - at arms length - in the past three books. We also discovered Jakes true identity in book three. In Silenced it all comes together.Jake is head-over heels in love with Kayden. Although Kayden feels the same about Jake now that she knows his secret, they don't have the courage to admit their true feelings. When they are forced to work together to solve a murder, only to discover Jakes past is somewhat linked to the odd events, and Kayden's life is in danger, their feelings are clear. This book has it all, romance, chemestary, mystery, and two weddings. It's a true page turner. What it doesn't have is fluff. You jump straight into the story on the first page.It also sets the intro for book five which apparently will focus on Reef and Kirra. I can't wait. But I will be sad because that will be the last of the McKenna's. I don't recall loving a family this much since Dee Henderson's O'Malley series.

This one is the best
I have read all of these books in order and each story was great in the telling, especially getting you hooked into the McKenna family. But this book will answer all the questions about Jake Westin and the secrets he has been hiding. Plus you get to better understand why Kayden McKenna is so stubborn, strong willed, and tough. This story is a great story of how revenge can ruin life's and as usual the chase to solve the crime and rescue a family member has all of Yancey,Alaska rushing with the McKenna family to try to save one of their own, will keep you in the edge of your seat. Danni Pettrey has a way of already missing this family after you close the last page. One more to go and I can hardly wait to see how this all plays out for the McKennas of Yancey Alaska. Great read.

Great stories!
Book #4 in this series doesn’t disappoint! The story this time centers on Kayden McKenna and Jake Westin. It is again set in Alaska, but unlike book #3 that was set mostly at sea, this was is back on land. We also see a lot more of the fifth McKenna sibling, Reef, in this book. While Kayden is out rock climbing she discovers a body. It is quickly discovered that the climber was murdered and didn’t die due to an accidental fall while climbing. With the abrupt resignation of the sheriff, Landon Grainger is promoted from deputy to temporary acting sheriff. Since he is overloaded with work he asks Jake to temporarily be deputized and work the murder case. Kayden is also asked for her climbing expertise to help Jake investigate. Both Jake and Kayden are secretly thrilled they will be working together as they both have realized their strong attachment to the other. They won’t tell each other how they feel because they can’t see a future together. As they investigate, their attraction and love only increase with the time spent in each other’s company.Jake discovers he really enjoys being back on the force. He tells himself it is only temporary as God didn’t make him to be a cop because of his failure on his last case three years ago in Boston. That failure caused him to resign his job as detective and move to Alaska to start over. That case also cost him a lot more than his job. He knows he shouldn’t open his heart again to future hurt, but someone Kayden has snatched his heart without him being aware of it. He will do anything to keep her safe, which skills will come to the forefront as they encounter someone from his past who will stop at nothing to hurt Jake by hurting Kayden. Kayden must also admit to herself how she has cut herself off emotionally from her family and friends when her mother died. She is terrified of inheriting her mother’s rheumatoid arthritis and as a result is a health and exercise fanatic almost to the point of obsession because she needs to feel like she can control something about her life. Can she surrender this control to the One who is always in control? The One who always knows what is best for His children?I have spent a lot of time with the McKenna family over the past week as I’ve read all four books over that time period. They have come to be like my own brothers and sisters. What a wonderful job their parents did, raising such strong Christian children. While strong Christians, they aren’t perfect. I can identify with their foibles and struggles, which makes them so easy to relate to. There is also a lot of action and suspense to enjoy as well. I can’t wait to read Reef’s story!

Better than I expected
After the first book in this series, Submerged, this one is probably my favorite. The love story between the two main characters is a little more advanced than in the other books. These people have known each other awhile, and their romance seemed to have more of a foundation to me than the previous two books, or the one after it. The McKenna family is intriguing, and the story line interesting. The idea that a civilian would be allowed to question witnesses is a little far fetched, but that's a rather common theme in this series. I do not live in Alaska, so maybe that is more realistic than I realize, but it seemed strange to me. As I have stated in previous reviews of this series, I did not read these for the sake of realism, and once I got over the somewhat fantastical plots of all of these books, I rather enjoyed them. I would read them again for sure, but probably not anytime soon.

Enthralling
I am spending way too much time reading these great stories; It's just so hard putting each book down and not starting the next one straight away. They are just so absorbing and at time intense as the lives of each of the main characters unfold.

An enjoyable book and author
This was another great book in the Alaskan Courage series. It is well-written in a way that I feel could make for an enjoyable read whether or not you've read the preceding books in the series. I have read the others before it though, and have enjoyed getting to know some of the members of the McKenna family. From the opening chapter of Silenced, the reader is given an interesting look into the world of climbing. The main two characters (Jake and Kayden) are personable and engaging, their love story touching. They both have experienced loss in their lives, and struggle with those past hurts. One of Kayden's traits that I related to was her tendency to try to exert control over a situation in an attempt to manage her fear. There is a good suspenseful storyline that achieves resolution by the end of the book, while an interesting minor character stirs up interest into the following book in the series.I am pleased to have discovered Dani Pettrey and she has quickly become one of my favorite authors. I enjoy her style of writing and look forward to more books about the McKenna family.Disclaimer: Although I purchased a Kindle Edition of this book for myself, I was first given a paperback copy of the book for promotional purposes. Opinions are my own.

Adventure and romance combined
If you read Dani Pettrey's previous books in this series, you will also enjoy Silenced, as it brings Kayden and Jake together in the midst of another outdoor adventure. Suspense, Alaska, and romance are skillfully woven together in this novel. I finished it in one day as I couldn't put it down!
