High protein, great quality, cats love it!
As a veterinarian, I see many health problems in cats due to poor diets (diabetes, obesity, urinary tract disease, dental disease, GI problems). For a long time, people believed dry kibble was the best option for cats. It may be the easiest choice, but it's not the best choice.Cats are natural carnivores and healthy cats need VERY high protein diets (45-50% of the calories in the food should come from protein and less than 15% should come from carbs). This helps acidify their urine and maintain lean body mass. Canned food is always higher in protein than dry food and has the added benefit of water to both fill up the cat's stomach when they eat (helping to prevent over-eating) and keep them hydrated. Cats that eat canned food often have better teeth as well (remember all those carbs in the dry kibble? It's like eating candy and not brushing afterwards!).After looking around for quite a bit, I've chosen Merrick canned food as an affordable, high quality option for my two personal cats (both around 9 years of age and healthy). The Cowboy Cookout, Surf 'n Turf, and Grammy's Pot Pie are all great choices for high protein / low carb diets. My two kitties prefer the Cowboy Cookout and Surf 'n Turf. I tend to alternate between several varieties (cats that only eat one type of food are often very difficult to transition to prescription diets if at some point in their life they need a special kind of food) while avoiding the "novel" protein diets (exotic proteins such as rabbit, duck, etc. that should be reserved for cats that develop food allergies). My only caveat has more to do with amazon.com than the food - once I ordered the Merrick Cowboy Cookout original (a pate-type canned food) and received the Merrick Purrfect Bistro Cowboy Cookout (a chunky canned food). This wouldn't be a problem except that my female cat is very picky about texture and will NOT each chunks of food - she wants a smooth pate. We solved this problem by mashing up the chunks with a fork prior to feeding it to her, and she's now happy. *sigh* After all, we exist only to serve her. ;)

thank goodness for grainfree
I have two cats, one who eats wet food as a last resort (mostly she licks up the gravy), and one who has food allergies (grains) and is incredibly picky (won't eat any grain free cat treats i've found so far--greenies, the tasty junk food ones, wellness cat jerky bits, shaved salmon, etc-- doesn't like catnip, and turns his nose up at anything that costs less than $1.29 a can it seems, to include spots stew; authority; organix; most flavors of avo-derm, holistic select, and innova; max cat; and natural choice).she still licks up the gravy, and eats about half her bowl. He eats his portion and finishes hers, with no vomiting or retching (so nice!). He also wakes me up in the morning if it's breakfast time and i haven't gotten the memo yet, and looks at me like i just kicked his grandma cat when i've run out.this has quite a bit of juice in it, which is good since most cats don't drink enough water anyway.as for me, i love this food b/c it doesn't smell to high heaven, and i haven't died from litterbox duty as of yet. ;) (get it? duty--dooty? hehe)

Bad Packaging
This food is good. My cat liked it and ate an entire case. Then she decided she did not want it anymore. So I can say that she did eat it. It smells great. The comapny is a good company. I am complaining about the packaging. When I got my order the box looked alright. When I opened the box, it was a different story. The cans looked like an elephant had stepped on them. About 80% of the case was dented and smashed. I took pictures and sent them to Amazon but they did not do anything. I did not even receive an acknowledgement to my dilemma. All in all the food is a good food. My cat is picky. She is 13 and is Hyperthyroid and in her old age she is picky about what she eats. I guess it depends on which company you order it from. I can't remember who I got it from now.

Great cat food
I did a lot of research before choosing Merrick canned cat food, and settled on it because it had a better calories from protien vs fat ratio than most of the rest of the grain free foods I looked at, while still being affordable. It also has a fairly low ash content, which is important for my cat that has had urinary crystals in the past. The Cowboy Cookout itself is always very consistent from can to can as far as texture and amount of gravy and size of chunks. It is one of the lowest calorie/oz choices from Merrick. My cat loves this food, but it's also true that he's not a picky eater.I've noticed his coat noticeably more soft since switching to this food, and he seems pretty happy and healthy on it.I did have an issue once with a single can being punctured in one of my shipments out of 4 or 5, but otherwise every shipment has been in good order.

A bit pricy, but it's Pee Wee's favorite
My cat, Pee Wee, loves Merrick food and this is by far his favorite flavor! He gets so excited at dinner time, and he's a bit of a snob. He turns his nose up at many food brands (very picky for a former stray!).

Good product...great price!
This food looks just like something you would make for your pet at a Thanksgiving day dinner! I was impressed with it when I opened the can, and my cats were when they ate it. It contains nice size pieces of shredded turkey...not too big, making it easy for my kitties to eat. They have gotten the Tiki cat chicken before and the long stringy pieces in that kept them busy for a little bit and they seemed kind of tough even for me when I would try to break them up. Not this, I just spooned it into their bowls and they took over from there. There is liquid around the sides of the food in the center, but the meat/vege mix in the middle is well packed. I didn't feel like I was getting more liquid than food, like Halo foods so I was happy about that as well. Plus, through amazon, this is a great price for this quality food.

Food good, delivery needs work.
They like this food so nothing wrong with the cat food. The delivery could have been a whole lot better. The guy who deliver it walked 3/4 up the sidewalk to the porch and then THREW it on the front porch. This place is easily seen and easy o steal. The noise when he threw it was not pleasant and he certainly did not have any regard for what was in the box. Several cans dented.

Excellent! See detailed experience below.
My cat loves the Merrick's cat food. I switched her food 3 or 4 times before I started her on Merrick's because she was overweight, lazy, had pretty bad dandruff and reoccurring bladder infections. She is so much healthier on it than she has been on any thing else. People don't believe me when I tell them she is 10 yrs old! She is so active, her eyes are so bright and her fur is so soft. I have become a complete Merrick's fan girl. (I will add that she prefers the beef flavours above all else)As always, Amazon has competitive prices (better than the local pet stores and other online sellers- because of the free shipping), it arrived on time, and was exactly what I ordered. So no complaints there - honestly, I have never had a less that 5 star experience with Amazon as a seller - individual products sometime, but those aren't Amazon's fault and Amazon seems to be the part that fixes the issue anyway
