An Honest Review!
Although there was nothing to bring you there previously, the climax was thrilling. There was just too much information on subjects that didn’t seem too important, and the transitions were clunky. However, I ended up loving this one more than I had anticipated. If you’re against the type of over-the-top endings where one may have to suspend belief, this may not be for you. Get ready for an exciting trip because the environment may be rather eerie at times. The conclusion was amazing!

expected more from the author!
While I hadn't read Tarryn Fisher's previous works, I dove into "Good Half Gone" with high expectations, after the hype around "The Wives" on Bookstagram a few years ago.Good Half Gone follows twin sisters Iris and Piper Walsh, whose lives diverge dramatically when Piper is abducted during their teenage years. Fast forward to the present, and we find Iris navigating the complexities of early adulthood, raising her son Calvin with the unwavering support of her endearing grandmother. Yet, beneath the image of her seemingly ordinary life lies an ache for closure, still hung on her grief and a relentless pursuit of answers to the mystery that has haunted her for years. Iris thus joins on an internship program at the secluded Shoal Island Hospital for the criminally insane, driven by the hope that the perpetrator who hurt her sister might be one of the violent patients there.Indeed, the premise was promising yet what unfolds is a narrative marred by disjointed storytelling and a plot that felt like a messy domino effect. The conclusion did offer some redemption however the missing piece of the puzzle in "Good Half Gone" was the absence of backstory for the secondary characters, crucial players in the sisters' disappearance. Additionally, Piper's teenage relationships remain shrouded until late in the narrative, instead, the author keeps on ranting how Piper meddled with the wrong church group a hundred times over?! What overpowered the story was Fisher nagging us with incessant details about Iris?? And well it made me dislike her ngl!Despite its flaws, I'd say stick around for the ending if you're curious. But overall, "Good Half Gone" didn't quite live up to the Tarryn Fisher hype for me.

edge of my seat
Great read, kept my attention. I like Fishers writing. She is quick and to the point and always keeps it interesting. Her character building is also great.

Worth waiting for
Good Half Gone is the latest standalone thriller by Tarryn Fisher. Tarryn Fisher’s writing style never fails to deliver and if you’re a fan of this author, or thrillers in general be sure to check this one out. The intriguing premise will capture your attention and you will stay for the twists, turns and shocker of an ending. I’ll confess Tarryn Fisher is my favorite author of all time and Mud Vein is my soul book. While I enjoy her earlier works more than the recent thrillers, she never fails to entertain and deliver up an intense, heartfelt and twisty mystery filled with drama, trauma and emotion. I look forward to seeing what she comes up with next.

Twins? Kidnapped? Dead or Alive?
** 4 BLUSHES **I am a huge Tarryn Fisher fan. The Opportunist is still one of my favorite series.Irish and Piper are twins in looks but different in personality and in perception of life. Piper glows and shines and flits through the day. Iris follows her sister and is alright with being in the background.Their mother is a drug addict and not in the picture so the maternal grandmother is their guardian. They all mutually adore each other. She's successfully raising these girls but THEN Piper gets kidnapped and EVERYTHING is in question.I was on pins and needles! Then the middle was an exercise in frustration. Those idiot cops? Wow I hated them and their biased modus operandi. Also, what happened to Piper? Is she really dead? How has Iris carried on? We are given information little by little. The years play out like bricks being laid out for a foundation.Good Half Gone is told in a dual time line. Iris is now an adult and is somehow convinced that the person responsible for Piper's death is a patient at a state hospital on a remote island. Say what now?! So why not get a job there and extract sweet sweet revenge from this monster. Leave her elderly grandmother with her young son to live/work at this "hospital" which is more an insane asylum. Yup! That was her big plan because her entire life has been about that day when Piper was kidnapped. Her spirit is frozen, like a fly in amber, on that day.The other characters in this book like the hospital employees were very quirky and richly filled out. The details of The Shoal so eerily vivid. Tarryn has been building this slow burn AND then here comes the twists! The ending was satisfying but honestly left me a little wanting. No surprise because that's very Tarryn. I went back and re-read parts looking for hints of what was to come. Spoil it for you I will not. If you're looking to be spoon fed with a tidy ending then you won't find that here. What you will find is a multi-layered story that will have you thinking about it long after you've finished reading it. You'll probably go back and re-read like I did. That's a win win in my "book".
