Got 5 stones out of the earth one. Not too hard.
My son got five stones out of the Earth one including the fake blue diamond, i’m not sure how many are supposed to be inside. So be careful because when the chunks go flying, you may not realize there’s a stone in some of the pieces. At the end, I would take a hammer and break every little chunk that’s longer than about 3/4 of an inch just to be sure. It’s not terribly hard to break for my 12 year-old anyway, some of these types of things can be really hard but this one is good.

Fun activity but young kids might need help
Fun toy for my kids! They did need a little help as it was a bit challenging to get all the gems out. It was fun but messy!

Fun activity for inquisitive hands
My daughter loves rock collecting and is fascinated by all of the colors and shapes that can be dug up from the ground when we’re gardening. This dig kit looked right up her alley for some indoor fun. We chose Earth and although it appears small, sized somewhere between a baseball and softball, it is a fun activity to keep her hands and mind occupied. The tools included in the kit are definitely a one & done; especially the chisel that takes quite a beating. The plastic molded insert that holds Earth in place in the package doubles as a stand for chiseling. My daughter diligently worked through all of the clay until she found all 5 gems and stones. She was tickled to wash them up afterward and inspect them before adding to her collection. She’s 5 years old and was able to dig through the Earth without assistance. It’s definitely a bit easier if you use a little water spritzer to help soften the clay. While fun and educational, I do wish that the blue “diamond” was some sort of stone and not a plasticy gem. Overall, she really enjoyed it so I consider it $9.99 well spent!

Lopsided
Gems are all on one side so there's no real reason to dig.

Fun and engaging activity for the kids
As a parent of a 3 and 6 year olds, this kit definitely have us an afternoon worth of fun and excitement. The kids were certainly engaged the entire time was they awaited what mysterious treasure they would find. The curiosity and fascination of the digging aspect has led to my oldest wanting to become a geologist! The pieces they discovered are not super valuable in themselves, but the intrigue of the activity itself brings about so much additional value. Highly recommend for your young ones, as silly as it may seem. Great quality and nice looking gems came from this dig kit.

So cool!
I love the informational poster that was included in this. My astrology buff child's first reaction was, "Jupiter is a gass giant! It's not solid!" But they were quickly won over when they started digging.I definitely recommend doing this activity outside. The "planet" is very chalky and can make a squeaky sound when you use the wooden digging tool. It made me cringe, but my child didn't seem to mind.My child was a little disappointed by the "diamond" which is an angular plastic blue gem. This is obviously not a multi-use toy. You can only dig out the gems once but it was still fun and my child treasures the stones.Otherwise, it was fun, educational, and occupied my child for about 30 minutes. Would recommend.
