Excellent price for bread without additives
Trying to get away from processed food and this German bread is both filling and additive free. We have it for breakfasts with either egg mayo or cream cheese topped with pastrami or smoked salmon and it is delicious. It has a really long sell by date but doesn't keep well once the pack is opened so we pop it in the freezer. This is an excellent price compared with the protein bread from the pocket slapping supermarket!

It's nice ... but ...
I've been eating Biona Rye breads since I don't know when and particularly enjoy them with salamis, cheese, pickles etc when they prove the perfect complement to such fare. This is the first time I have tried Biona's actual Pumpernickel Bread as opposed to their other Rye Breads containing various seeds etc., and I do find that this pumpernickel occasionally "feels" a little heavy compared to some of the other varieties available. However, I can more than live with this "difference" as it is still an extremely tasty rye bread and very, very satisfying. A single slice goes a long way, especially with "best butter" plus whatever else I am eating.Once I have finished the packs I purchased I think I will go back to the likes of Biona Rye Bread with Pumpkin Seeds etc., but that is just my personal preference.

Love it and great toasted.
I think this bread is excellent and I love the strong flavours and the texture. I tried it with cream cheese and smoked salmon it was great. I also tried it in the toaster and in my opinion it enhances the flavours and it's really tasty with unsalted butter and pate. Just make sure you toast it a bit longer than normal bread if you want it a bit crispy. You may need to split the slices apart with a knife when taking it out of the packet because my first slice broke in half because it was stuck to the next slice. Anyway I will definitely buy more of this bread. 👍

High quality
I have done the Zoe nutrition trial and bread scores pretty low on gut healthy foods but this Pumpernickel bread is great. One slice toastedfor lunch with avacado, eggs, salads etc is both filling and delicious.

Too sweet to be true pumpernickel
True pumpernickel as consumed in Germany is made from rye, water and salt. It is not heavily sweetened with Sugar Beet Syrup and Barleymalt Extract, both of which might be 'organic' but nevertheless are still almost pure sugar. Indeed, I found this such a disgustingly sweet product that the rest of the box went straight in the bin.

Perfect Pumpernickel!
Chewy, gorgeous, tasty! This pumpernickel is one of the best and because it is organic it is also good for you. It is moist and robust and very satisfying. You can make a mini sandwich by cutting one slice in half (if you are calorie counting) and this will sustain you till lunch or dinner. Great with hummous, almond butter, jams and Jarlsberg. I highly recommend this product.

So hard to eat
I wanted to like this bread because I love the rustic breads of Denmark and enjoy the richer taste. The problem for me with this is in the eating bit. Even when toasted and with a nice topping, it is still very hard to chew this down. At least for me, it feels like it is drying out my mouth and is really hard to swallow. Toasting it a bit helps, although it is still hard work. I have a stack of it to eat, so I will push on and see if I can find a good topping combo to make it easier. The actual flavour is OK though, so if you are happy to chew away you may find you like the texture more than me.
