Rahano Thumb Piano 17 Key Kalimba, Finger Piano Percussion Keyboard Music Intrument, Solid Mahogany Wood Body

I must admit, I originally ordered it as a novelty item--something new and different with which to play around before passing it on to the kids. Here I find myself sitting down to write this review after getting lost in it's pleasant tones and simplicity for almost three hours!I'm not sure exactly what it is, but this kalimba (thumb piano) is simply enchanting. My kids--who just got home from school--have already asked to play it, and my 11 year old could play a simple melody after just a few minutes. I've never played a kalimba before (though I do play other instruments), and I simply couldn't put it down.It comes with a simple carry sack, some stickers for marking the notes, and a cleaning cloth. The carry sack won't offer much protection (except from dust). The stickers may be helpful to some, but I was able to pick it up and play without using them. If you need them, use them. The cleaning cloth is simple and can be used to wipe down the instrument--especially the keys.There is a little song/instruction booklet, and a tuning hammer (it is used to change the length of the keys), but mine came well enough in tune to play immediately out of the box.One word of caution: if the package was sitting outside in cold weather for a long time (e.g., while you were at work), be sure to let the box warm up before opening and unboxing the instrument. A rapid change in temperature could damage the instrument (this is true for any wooden instrument). It really is a beautiful instrument.If you're unsure about buying one, I recommend you go for it! Get it and have some fun. Even if you don't find yourself playing it for three hours at a time, it can serve as a beautiful decoration or conversation piece.

The Kalimba is beautifully crafted. The wood is very nice. It has nice rounded edges and is very pretty to look at. It would look great just hanging on a wall as a piece of art! It's very easy to play being that it is tuned to a major scale. The sound reverberates nicely from the wooden chamber.My advice is, make sure to read the instructions to learn where the notes are. You can even stick labels on to the keys if you want. Even if you don't try to play seriously and learn the instrument, just plucking randomly is even a pleasant sound. it helps if you have a since of rhythm of course! Strike 2 notes side-by-side and you'll make a pleasant sounding 2-note chord. The sound is similar to that magical sound of a harp.My only complaint is the tines are a little stiff, especially the shorter ones, which produce the high notes. Normally I pluck it with the fleshy part of my finger tips, but to get a louder sound it helps to use a finger nail on the shorter keys. For this, I would deduct a 1/2 star if I could, but since I can't, I give it a 5.

This is my first kalimba. It sounds nice and full. It comes in a secure box with lots of accessories like a pouch, a cloth, tuning hammer, reference stickers and a helpful guide.It’s easy to tune with the included hammer. I actually changed one of the notes from F to F# to make it more versatile and have access to another key. It was very easy to do with a tuner app.It has one sound hole on the front and two on the back. I think that contributes to the full sound. It would be easy to record this kalimba with a mic, thanks to the sound holes on the back, and it would sound nice with the mic directed at its back.I’m thinking of placing piezo mics in this and using it with effect pedals.

Super portable, small but with a perfect sound, it comes with a little bag for it, comes already tuned and instructions to tune it makes it very easy with the help of the FREE app! Comes with stickers to help you learn which key is what, very easy to set up!

I would say its a good instrument, however to tuning it takes forever. Because you have to knock it down or up. And this is my first time using this instrument, is it always hard like this or theres some more better out there and easier to tune. But overall its a good instrument.

The media could not be loaded.  I have been using this for a week and I really like it. It's very easy to use and fun. It come with a small booklet that has about 10 songs that you can learn to play on you rd own. Its makes great sounds.
