Praying Mantises (Little Critters)

My grandson is 4 and I raised a mantis for him. We actually hatched an ooth and released most of the mantises in the garden and then I kept a couple and raised them to the size that he would be able to handle them himself. His mother helps him care for him. This was the perfect book to explain mantis life cycle to a young child. Great up close photos and very simple language. I highly recommend it if your child is into bugs.

This book is written on an Emergent Reading (mid-first grade) Level. It’s pithy approach and clear photographs help new readers to approach the text. It is great for primary grades. My classroom has two. We raise praying mantises for a science project. This text is the most readable for early readers that I have found on the topic.

Purchased for my son’s insect project. A bit simple for 1st grade level, but it worked for what was needed. Great picture and fun facts.
