The Art of Creative Watercolor: Inspiration and Techniques for Imaginative Drawing and Painting

As with any purchase, I read all the reviews, good and bad! I will say this, if you are new to water color painting, don’t judge this book to be lacking, everything is there, it’s just a medium that you have to practice to get good at. Really!I would suggest getting on to youtube and watching a few beginner watercolor videos before trying any watercolor book with techniques. It would help with the references to technical terms and techniques. Also, watch videos on color theory, it helps when trying to pair paint colors and how to mix them to get the color you want.As far as the comment about not enough examples, with watercolor, especially in the learning stages, you do a lot of the basic washes she shows on pgs 28-30. the rest of the tutorials show you how to put it together. Once you know the basics, there’s not a lot more to do, just repeat and paint! Main thing with WC is patience. Let each layer dry before you go on to other areas of the painting. Dont be scared to mess up, it’s going to happen, it’s how you learn!I love this book, she has some really sweet illustrations and I love the texture and designs she uses. As the book’s title states, “Inspiration for imaginative drawing and painting!” Not only does she give examples but also breaks down her process.

This is the second book that I have purchased from this artist. The second one is much better than the first and yet in both I have been able to learn so many new techniques. Some folks may find it tedious to read about the nuts and bolts of an artist's supplies - I find it refreshingly honest ! One of my favorite parts of this book - and I have to say that I am working through in methodically so there may be more - is page 47 where Donaldson describes the meditative quality of watercolor. It is perhaps my favorite part because it is the way I feel about the art form also..."To me, watercolor creates a level of mindfulness--an alternative to traditional meditation.....I am fully present. The world inside my noggin is a crazy, mixed-up, fast-paced place. And it makes me tired. So tired." If you have never tried watercolor as meditation. as "being present" here is your doorway. Open the book and enter.

I thought this book was wonderful. I too trained as a graphic designer then in Visual Art and it brought back the fun l had in learning illustration techniques in a creative fun way. I thought using inspiration swatches a great idea to get fresh colour and design ideas. I loved the quirky illustrations backed up by solid techniques about negative space, perspective and playful colour exercises. I would recommend this book for all watercolour painters, not just Illustrators to invigorate their practice.

Here are unique characters that Danielle brings to life with watercolors to bring us joy. Doable practices with easy to absorb, brief lessons make this a helpful book.The sketch illustrations are small and faint, the beautiful watercolor illustrations fall into the binding since they go into the adjoining page but this book is chock with whimsy.

What wonderful book. Great illustration and projects, as a retired art teacher of 35 years I would have loved having your book to assist my teaching. Have learned more from your book on technique and practice than any of the classes I have taken in watercolor. You allow people to grow individually and without any sense of right or wrong. No rules just glorious exploration and guidance. You have inspired my own style and creativity. I am part of a group of three women who get together each week to work through your book and lessons. We are amazed each week how individual our works looks while completing the sams project. Great job. Thank you so much.

I wasn't able to see what the pages looked like from Amazon, but I was able to find a review of the book on YouTube. The illustrations, tips, and many projects are divine! Divine! I regretted the purchase of many books that now sit on my shelf gathering dust. This one will never gather dust! Artist of all ranges will find something to learn!

I am an art teacher and avid art technique book collector. This book is one of my all time favorites! It is so incredibly inspiring! Danielle’s book inspired me to create my own watercolor journal from an old children’s book, and paint a rainbow alphabet on the first spread. Next I’m going to fill in all of the pages with doodles and watercolors like the examples she provides in the book. I also plan to make a recipe card idea file as she suggests. I love a book that makes me want to get my supplies out and make something. This book did just that and reignited my love for watercolors!

This is a well thought out and carefully planned book. The illustrations are quite lovely and it is most helpful for artists starting out to mid learning watercolor. She has helpful hints and tips that you can use along the way. Though not a beginner, I really wanted to read her book and I enjoyed every minute spent.I buy real books when it comes to art books and this one was worth the money

También vienen muchos collages que hace con las ilustraciones, y son una maravilla. La pena es que no esté en español.

I just received Daneille's book and looked through it cover to cover. What a marvellous book, full of delightful images, great ideas and tips on how to dip into watercolour without being intimidated. The author combines technique with whimsy and a very sweet sense of humour. I highly recommend her book, the instructions are easy to follow. I love the layout/design of the book that is so logical that you feel like you are being lead on a lovely creative path.I'm so glad I ordered this book.
