The material is plastic with a rubber 'O' ring for the pressure seal but so is the coolant system cap from the mfg (plastic w/'O' ring). Possibly people with the negative experience did not realize the seal is at the 'O' ring and they used too much force when using, Review: When you need it, nothing else will do - This works perfectly with my Stant pressure tester. It's a little pricey for a single piece, but less than buying a whole assortment of adapters, 90% of which you will never use, and the effectiveness of the one you need is questionable. My pressure tester works great, is totally reliable, and will last a long time.
